James Martin High School

Description

James Martin High School is a secondary school serving grades 9 through 12 in Arlington, Texas, and is part of the Arlington Independent School District. The mascot of the school is the Warrior, and the school colors are black, red, and silver.HistoryMartin opened in 1982. As a result, the old Bowie High School closed in 1983. Cathy Brown of The Dallas Morning News said that Sam Houston High School and Lamar High School were "relatively unaffected" by the opening of Martin, located in southwest Arlington. Brown explained that the attendance zone of Arlington High School lost many newly constructed houses for affluent people. After Martin's opening and by 1998, the school consistently won the all-sports award. The school is named after former Superintendent James W. Martin. The name of the school was deemed controversial by some because it broke the trend of naming new AISD high schools after Texas heroes (the latest high school, Seguin High School, renewed the trend). In 1997, the school underwent a massive renovation and overhaul, adding two new wings, one doubling the size of the east wing and one surrounding the entire southern and western side of the school, making a new auditorium replacing the old one, adding a newer and current main entrance along with a new office and several computer labs, doubling the size of the library, and a new wing to the northern one adding two new gymnasiums in addition to the two existing ones, along with a larger weight room and locker rooms. The cafeteria was expanded and a second courtyard was made.

I currently attend this school, I'm a junior and my sister is a senior and I have to say the school isn't really as bad as I thought. There's a lot of diversity here and everybody can make friends quick here. This is a good choice if you're new to the Arlington area, the staff, teachers, and students are pretty lit.
My son graduated from this school in 2015. He was never happy with any of the staff. Teachers were only concerned about getting a paycheck. I now have a daughter entering the 9th grade and REALLY am torn about making her go there versus a charter school or even home schooling. Upon reading the last few comments about this Tay k, who apparently is awaiting trial for murder? makes it even more worrisome. I knew gangster stuff was goin on there, but was not aware of the extent. My son completed 12th grade by the skin of his teeth and now is a full time college student. I do not credit Martin for his accomplishments because I believe it was his hard work and determination to finish with the help of us the parents and Venture high school...
Me and my younger sister had moved to Texas, and I soon as I walked into this building I was never so disappointed in the administration and staff. My sister and I were downgraded just because we weren't from there. My sister and I are both athletes and played basketball, volleyball, track, soccer etc... at our previous school and for both of us to be denied or not even given playing time is really messed up. We are both Hispanic and I can definitely tell you I had the most racist teachers and a few of my other Hispanic friends that go there say the same. So many fights so imagine the friend making part, had to defend me and my sister more than once it's ridiculous.
Although I was rivals with Martin High School years ago, I still have the utmost respect for this institution. There have been incredible alumni from Martin, and the staff is ranked at the top of the city rankings. If you are trying to decide where to send your middle school student, give Martin heavy consideration!
Martin is a really great school, the only problem I have with Martin was the choir class, the head director is always rude to students besides her favorites, if there was a separate page for that then it would be rated a one but as a whole school I rate it a five because they focus on what would be needed for college versus worrying just about one area in the school. One year out of my high school year have I heard of vandalism but otherwise than that I haven't heard on thing about it, teachers teach to be respectful and encourage students to like another school regardless of if it was the school's rival or not
One of the top schools in Arlington, Martin has a top quality teaching staff and office team. The band, choir, and theater groups all rank consistently high at State. With a good cross mix of sports and student diversity, they are a well-financed and well respected public school.
I graduated MHS in 2006. I enjoyed my high school years and would not have chosen to go to any other high school. I'm sure things have changed, but during the 4 years I attended Martin, it was known as the top high school in the area and highly recognized statewide. The high school has an array of extra curricular programs to offer, leading towards diversified, well-rounded students. Of course there were the occasional "bad examples" among the student population, but as a whole, the student body was constructed of fine and friendly peers. I am so proud of my education within the Arlington/Martin school district, that I intend of having my children grow up to attend the same schools I did.
They have the best fine arts in the state! Their teaching staff is incredible, and has been recognized for several awards, and they take in their students as if they were family. Highly Highly Highly recommend this school. :
Saturday was a great set of baseball games played by San Angelo Central and Martin. However, Martin fell to the hands of some great pitching at the final game of 3. Shortly after this and during the final few innings several Martin fans and school kids were observed cutting tires and vandalizing anything that represented San Angelo. Is this what is taught at this school? Is this what is allowed and coached? It is amazing that to this point nothing has been done or any type of follow up has been placed. Great going Martin, you just showed what kind of true colors and looser you are.
When I went to this horrible rude and skanky school everyone of those kids made fun of me and almosed cost me my life fatally.I thought I had friends I can depend on but when I was depressed everyday even when I danced at those pep rally I looked back and felt ashamed.horrible teachers, horrible administration, fake friends my worst enemy. That. Claimed he didn't know. Me. Bragen. Wooldridge asswhole didn't give me the time of day in such. Glad. Im. Through. Bye
