I used to live on James St. and it was my daily go to pub about 30 years ago. I had a craving for wings, so decided to drop by abd pick some up. Was greeted by a great server who took my order and as I looked around, the memories flooded back, of all the good times I had had there in my younger days. The wings arrived promptly and were delicious, not quite as good as I remember, but certainly better than most.
I decided to visit the James Street Pub after work yesterday to enjoy the beautiful weather. I called earlier in the day to see if they offered non-alcoholic beer and was delighted that they did. The service was exceptional and the patio was full of patrons. It brought back wonderful memories of when I first moved to Ottawa in 2004. Thank you for a wonderful, nostalgic experience.
Went for wig night and was sadly not very impressed. The service was quick and servers were all very nice, but the wings were not up to par. The meat tasted very fake although the wings had a nice crunch and a good amount of sauce. The atmosphere was very chill, I’d recommend going for their drink specials.
This was a highly underwhelming experience overall. When I walked in, no one greeted me and I had to wait about 15 minutes before anyone even noticed that I had entered the restaurant bear in mind that it was not busy at all - only 12 people in the entire restaurant!. I ordered fish tacos which were recommended by the waiter for being highly acclaimed by several clients and himself. The tacos, as can be seen in my pictures attached, contained a very meager portion of fish, not to mention, it arrived in a hideous presentation, the tacos lying flat and wide open. There was literally a tiny sliver of fish along with very basic ingredients like sliced peppers and coleslaw. Nonetheless, i am giving it 3 stars because the prices are somewhat reasonable and the waiter was friendly, professional and attentive to our needs.
They redid the seats making them much more comfortable. Good place for watching sports. Food is traditional pub food. Servers are nice.
Great neighbourhood pub with a friendly atmosphere. Decent beer selection, good food, large portions, sports friendly and they pour a proper pint pic attached. They support live music and they also have a nice size patio, with misters going, to keep you cool, on the really hot days.
Took 20 minutes from sitting down at the table for the server to arrive and acknowledge our existence. Another 20 minutes to wait for the waters we wanted. Not sure why the service was painfully slow, but the restaurant was not that busy for a Thursday evening. The food was mediocre at best. I had the fish and chips while my friend had the bacon cheeseburger. For the price, the portion sizes are laughable. I heard this pub used to be good before Heart and Crown bought it out. Maybe I went on an off night, but judging by the convenient location I will come to the conclusion that this place feels more like a tourist trap than your friendly neighborhood pub with massive portions and friendly service.
A nice little place downtown to go for a drink with friends and family. The food is surprisingly delicious!!! We had fish that was deliciously crispy on the outside and tender and flaky on the inside. Food service was lightning fast despite our large group. I’ll also give it up to the patrons who were more helpful than the establishment! I nice man saw me standing at the door and let me know that’s not how it’s done! Ya gotta holler! LOL! Parking is available and the prices are decent. I would definitely go back with another group.
Love this place. Always good service and decent prices and food. Not a ton of beer selection and not always the nicest to look at, but these attributes aren't really what they market. It has the biggest patio in downtown Ottawa and always has a really fun local crowd. They have been very accommodating whenever I made large reservations which is great in the summer on the patio.
The food was decent. Though I asked for no onions on my salad and it came with. Thankfully I noticed before eating any. The server didn't come back and it was likely the manager that noticed I wasn't eating and asked. No problem he took it back and had it remade. When we finished eating, we waited likely 10 minutes or more for the bill. We were going to walk over to the bar so we could get going when the waitress noticed and came over to ask if we wanted together or separate. No discount for the mistake on the meal or the wait. Some birthday supper.
