Jazz Artistry Now (JAN) is a webzine that speaks to the state of the art of jazz music in our times.
JAN does not segregate the generations into "Baby Boomers" or "Millennials" or "BeBop" or "Progressive".
JAN covers the music being created by the artists now.
Jazz Artistry Now is a new publication that was established to bring more focus toward this seriously engaging now music and many of the exciting now artists who are creating it everyday.
Jazz Artistry Now presents feature articles, interviews, reviews, music and videos. We will also include many high-quality, prescreened independent artists and producers among our feature subjects.
Another aspect of our mission is to present music and musicians who may not be as visible as those in the commercial mainstream, yet are making significant contributions to art and society through their work.
Information and access are powerful resources to the continuum and practice of jazz music. We are very interested in the perpetuation of the historical aspects of the music. And, Jazz Artistry Now maintains that all worthy musical artistry merits publicity and due consideration.
Beyond the commercial concerns that are inherent within the promotion and mass marketing of most all music that has been largely created within the corporate mainstream, such work is neither more or less significant in context than the serious work being created independently. The music itself tells us that it is myth to believe otherwise.
We live in times that allow the creative and resourceful individual relevant access to a significant audience, without the prohibitive barriers to entry that existed only a few years ago. This is a good thing for the artists, the music and the listeners.
Therefore, Jazz Artistry Now is dedicated to being a resource for discovering wonderful creative artists; and, a destination for those who also enjoy work of artistic substance. We have purposely kept the “noise” of the site down by making a sleek and simple design. We hope this concept allows you to enjoy the featured content without enduring much of the distractions inherent to the large jazz magazine portal sites and blogs.
