The Jewish Community of Brazosport started in the 1950's when several young Jewish Families began to join together for social events and to celebrate important life events. In the spring of 1960 several members gathered at a home for a Friday night service. Afterwards it was suggested to "Do this again next month". And so the group began to celebrate Shabbat together at least once a month in each others homes. The abbreviation JaCOB was coined and used for the congregation. As the group increased in size, JaCOB began to rent local fellowship halls for Shabbat. In 1996 we moved to our current location, 88 Flag Lake. Rabbi Marcy Greene has been with the congregation since February 2007.
