Nestled in the hills of Chatsworth, CA in a century-old home, Joan's Flower Shop specializes in creating the perfect floral expression of your message.
Adding to the quaint charm of Oakwood Memorial Park is the historic Chatsworth Community Church and at the entrance to the park next to the chapel is an old adobe building with a wishing well out front. This structure, known for many years as 'The Miranda House' is now home to Joan’s Flower Shop, which was named in the memory of a dear friend (owner) to Oakwood Memorial Park, Joan.
Historians have identified the adobe originally as the home of the Francisco Miranda Family from the 1880s to the early 1900s. Francisco Miranda died in 1905, before Oakwood Memorial Park opened as a cemetery, but in 1937, Miranda's body was moved to Oakwood, to rest on his former property.
Oakwood Memorial Park is located in the iconic San Fernando Valley and has been in use as a cemetery since 1924. Conveniently situated near the Ronald Reagan Freeway (HW 118), and surrounded by rocky hills, Oakwood borders an ancient Native American burial ground. Sadly, many years ago fire destroyed the wooden grave markers.
Rambling next to the cemetery property, the Old Santa Susana Stage Road, (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) once served travelers between the San Fernando Valley and Simi Valley near Chatsworth, California via the Santa Susana Pass. Part of the Old Santa Susana Stage Road is also a Historic-Cultural Monument of Ventura County and of the City of Los Angeles.
