1st off I need to thank the entire hospital staff, from the Covid testing RNs to the Security and Valet Workers and Registration ladies. Without them this hospital wouldn’t be what makes it so special! This is not down playing RNs and Drs We were here yesterday for oral surgery for my 7 year old. Very frightening experience to see your child go through something so young. If it wasn’t for the ENTIRE hospital staff, I do not believe I could have been as calm and level headed. They just made me and my daughter feel so calm and comfortable. They answered EVERY question, especially when they had to give her the “calming” meds b4 her surgery. Our pre-op RN “Stephanie”was amazing, kind, knowledgeable , sweet, patient, attentive and just an all around good person. Ty from the bottom of our hearts “Shirley” the OR RN was so very kind and calming, I was so scared when they wheeled her away because she was crying, and Shirley assured me she was in great hands! “Natalie” was her recovery RN and she was simply amazing. Seeing my child Asleep hooked up on a breathing mask made me very nervous and Natalie was there every moment to explain EVERYTHING about what would happen when she woke up, and how to care for her at home. She was also knowledgeable, kind, patient, and completely understanding about my severe nervousness. We are so very grateful for you Natalie and Last but certainly not least is “David”, the young man who wheeled my daughter out to the car. David was kind, careful, funny and just super helpful. Thank god you have these guys to help your little patients out, it’s a huge help and a nice touch. Also, the cafe staff, working hard to provide yummy food to hungry families, TY so much for our dinner! I highly recommend the BLT & Chicken Fingers! Overall, our experience here my nothing short of remarkable. This hospital treats children with respect and the utmost kindness! They give treats and toys and just make the children feel less like their in a hospital and more like a fun and comfortable environment! We recommend Joe D to ALL parents. And TY from the bottom of our family’s hearts For taking such amazing care of our daughter! God bless all of you ‍‍‍
I give 5 stars to this hospital. Everyone, and I mean everyone, from the surgeons, to the nurses, to the nurses assistants, to the cleaner, to the security, to the car valet, everyone was extremely kind and compassionate. My 22 month son Dimitri spent 3 weeks there recently for perforated appendicitis and they did everything to make his stay there as comfortable as possible. My wife and I also stayed with him and they made sure we were comfortable as well. We're happy to say our son is doing very well now. Thank you to everyone at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital!!!
I totally recommend this children's hospital. My baby felt very bad and we went to the ER, all the staff was very nice and friendly, they attended us super fast and the doctor was incredible, he followed up our baby several times.
My daughter is 4 and she born here i love this place, today September 16 2022 at 1:00 am she stop, breathing she turned blue i did my best and bring her back, i run to emergency and i been waiting for one hour is 2:30am and the lady pass 5 kids that get here after me when i ask why everyone is coming first she said because my daughter is sleeping and she is stable!!! How??? All the kids that she decided to take first one have feaver, other back pain, and my daughter is not breathing but she can wait!!! I wish that someone read this because is not possible that a feber or back pain is more important that a child that can't breathe properly
My son spent about 3 weeks doing intensive rehab. During his time there, he worked with wonderful PTs, OTs, nurses, child life specialists, Mr. George and others. The program worked wonders for him physically, emotionally and socially. It was truly amazing. He is stronger and more confident than I had dared to hope. Sadly, everything was colored by his botched discharge. I did not see his attending physician during the days preceding or at his discharge. The nurse could not answer questions about his medications and planned referrals. I’m lost as to what happens next. I was expecting referrals and both my son and I have questions about his medication. The nurse suggested I ask at a recommended follow up appointment in 6 weeks. I don’t know if he needs the pain management programs that were discussed. I’m concerned about his reactions to medication. I’m shocked and saddened, and my son feels like someone he trusted abandoned him. The neuropsychologist — Zafiris — met with my son twice for approximately 30 minutes in total. During the first meeting, he was in intense pain and had slept for about 5 hours in 2 days. He told her that his pain level was not like others because he has a chronic disorder and daily pain, and he felt he didn’t know how to convey that to his team. Instead of offering empathy or understanding or suggestions about how to speak to them, Zafiris ranted at him over and over about being more sensitive to others who felt pain and that “someone with a hangnail might think her pain is just as bad as yours and you are not respecting that.” She would not let it go. Her inability to divorce her own personal agenda from her professional practice was evidenced by her bizarre commentary in his discharge report that he needs psychological counseling to learn not to compare his pain to others. She also referred him for a special education evaluation and services and demanded that I enroll him in public school on December 22, while he’s newly in a wheelchair, knows no one, as he’s adjusting to new medications and without any warning or preparation or his consent. And she subtly threatened me with CPS involvement if I did not comply with her demands she never asked for psychoeducational reports, school records or other documentation I could have provided. He attends FLVS and will be dual enrolling at USF. She was extremely arrogant and dismissive of my concerns about her advice. She lied to the nurse and said those comments are standard on every discharge report. She is dangerous, unqualified and unprofessional and created a situation where I now cannot pursue continuity of medical and psychological care for my child because of her discharge commentary and low key threats. My son was panicked by her and cried all the way home. Finally, the nurse practitioner, who hid in her office during discharge and refused to speak to me, signed a DMV form to give my son 6 months of a handicapped tag. He’s had permanent tags since 2013 as his condition and symptoms are genetic. She signed a line that would prevent him from ever obtaining a driver’s license in Florida. I asked the nurse if I could speak to her. She refused to talk with me or review his records and then lied about the reason she filled out the forms as such. Neither his physician nor this NP cared about this egregious error. I can’t turn in the paperwork to the DMV. I have a child who is relying on a wheelchair and will need a walker before he’s fully recovered and no ability to park in close proximity to appointments and other daily living activities, even temporarily, without ceding that he can NEVER drive a car. I hate that the discharge experience was so shocking and terrible that it colored what was otherwise a truly positive experience for my son. But the doctor’s absence this week, the NP’s callous actions and the neuropsychologist’s behavior and then written commentary that will impact my ability to find ongoing care and support for my child turned a great experience into a nightmare, days before Christmas, after weeks in the hospital.
Words are not enough to express what I want to say about this wonderful, beautiful hospital. Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital made my son's and my experience there a very calm, caring, loving, compassionate and as stress free as possible. The week and a half we spent there was bearable. My son Jordan suffered a serious injury leaving him with a shattered femur. He was in extreme pain and very down about not being able to walk. Joe D. has to be one of the best children's hospital ever. From the nurses, doctors, physical therapist team, custodial staff, the hospitality team the food was amazing!.. I heard my son talking to his friends about how amazing Joe was to him. I cannot write this without saying thank you, thank you to Ms. Marilyn my sons OT., Ms. Maria my son's P.T., Dr. Star, all the nurses who listened and encouraged Jordan when he wanted to give up... Those who gave me a hug and told me he would be okay when I was feeling defeated. We appreciate you all so very much... But I have to mention his biggest cheerleader ..Nurse Lauren, you were our Angel. I can't tell you how much you meant to us. We will never forget you all at Joe. We love love you and pray God's Blessing over this hospital.
I went into this experience the most scared I have ever been in my life sending my 2 year old boy into surgery for the first time and felt immediate comfort just walking through the door! Non stop laughter and smiles came from my boy the whole experience! Our registrar in pre op made my boy feel like a marvel superhero! The pre op nurse was outstanding! And Lotsy the Clown stole the show, playing bubbles with him and even gave him a little clown doll that looked just like her that he still sleeps with everynight! He even asks to go back to see Lotsy! The surgery went great and the post op nurse was an absolute angel! Thank you Joe Dimmagio Hospital and Staff for being truly magical for children and parents during the most vulnerable times! We will never go to any other hospital!!!
Last night Sunday, October 23rd, 2022 at approximately 6:30 p.m. I brought my child in to the E.R. because he was running a high temperature. He was seen by two intake staff members who took his vitals and one of them decided that he didn't have a fever and the other one did. So finally they decided that he did have a fever like I had already assumed because he was hot. You'd think that would be easy to determine by "professional" medical staff. We were put in a room where we waited for almost an hour to see someone. A doctor finally came in and he was nice but he was talking so fast. Last words he said was that he was gonna "get us out and on the way home". All my son received was some Tylenol which I could have easily given him myself. Nobody came back to discharge my child. We waited and waited. My child was cold and ready to leave and I had to go home and get ready for work. We left the room and stood at the receptions desk for ten minutes where all of the staff members looked at me and said nothing. Never asked if I needed some assistance. The staff there lacks customer service and interpersonal skills. Wait times are too long and the staff doesn't seem to really care especially when it comes to African-Americans. I've been bringing my child here since a newborn but we won't be returning here.
Do not bring your children here, this facility lacks any type of professionalism and urgency to patients. I brought my daughter into the ER and she was not treated and there was ZERO sense of urgency from staff. I waited for three hours, while my daughter was crying and screaming from not feeling well and the pain from her stomach. I’ve had multiple staff from the hospital look and pass by. Other patients who came way after my daughter were being attended first. After three hour wait, they put my daughter in a room, all for the doctor to come in to send her home, with ZERO examination or any type of testing. When I addressed my concerns she said I can go home or wait in the hospital but they weren’t going to do anything. I told her the blood from her stool is not normal at all. I called my daughters gastroenterologist and explained to her what was going on and she said I need to go to an ER, I explained to her that I was at an ER and they did not want to do anything and my daughters specialist even said they’re basically neglecting my daughter. That the symptoms she was feeling wasn’t normal so I left to get treatment somewhere else. Don’t bring your children here because they will not do anything for them.
I am very satisfied with the service my son received here. We came by ambulance to the ER and then we were admitted. The nurses and the doctors were kind, optimistic and caring. God used them to improve my sons health and save his life! This is my go to hospital for emergencys from now on.
