Johnny Unitas Stadium

Description

Johnny Unitas Stadium at Minnegan Field is a multi-purpose sports stadium in Towson, Maryland.HistoryThe stadium opened in 1978 as Towson Stadium when the Towson Tigers were in their 9th year of collegiate play and their final year of Division III. The new, lighted facility had 5,000 seats. The name of the stadium was changed to Minnegan Stadium in 1983 to honor former Towson coach and athletic director Donald "Doc" Minnegan. The sports complex began a $32 million renovation beginning in 1999. The renovations, which were completed in 2002, added 6,000 seats, artificial turf, an entry-level plaza, concession stands, new restrooms, ticket booths, a four-tier press box, a field house, and a promenade that connects the northside and southside seating areas. The stadium is named for the Baltimore Colts' Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas, who had taken a job trying to find a corporate sponsor for the stadium with Towson University weeks before his death in 2002. In fact, Unitas threw his last public pass at the re-opening of the facility (as Towson Stadium) just a few days before his death. His widow, Sandy, felt it appropriate to honor him by having the stadium named for him instead, with fund-raising in his name taking the place of the money that a corporate naming would have supplied. In 2008, the Unitas Stadium scoreboard was replaced with a 16:9 full video scoreboard. The new scoreboard stands where the previous scoreboard was placed. The old incandescent light scoreboard was recycled and a new smaller LED scoreboard was installed in the opposite endzone.

Great venue. Towson University knows how to "throw" a graduation. Logistics, speed and security all done very well! Focused on the graduates by having a few students speak briefly. No boring guest speaker; brilliant idea. Bravo! Other schools could take notes.
Beautiful stadium, watched a track event that was well run of which I enjoyed watching. Stadium seats with backs were comfortable, the scoreboard was easy to see, making it easy to keep up with the events.
My son died 2 weeks before His graduation. They really Was so loving and kind to my family. Honored my son I Received his degree and his Obituary was read with his picture.
There for graduation Congrats to the Class of 2022!. Pretty nice stadium. Should have preplanned a rain location. Poor planning Towson, poor planning. The tickets all said "GAX". Everyone was looking for section and seat numbers. It all became an unnecessary ball of confusion at every entry way. It's graduation, not a football game. Restricting reentry became another unnecessary confusion point. Graduates looking for family, family looking for family, family looking for graduates, dogs and cats, and nashing of teeth. For a predictable event the school hosts annually at the same time of year, the school demonstrated poor or lack of planning. SECU Arena was.across the street literally, but no one took a look at the weather or planned a rain site. Lots of wet underwear, socks and very nice hats. There was ruined hair and outfits. I mean, I know you all were saying good riddance, but you teach this sort of thing. Apply the academic concepts to real-world situations! If you need someone to plan next year's.geaduation, hit me up. I got some ideas. Class of 2023, I charge you to demand and expect better. Towson owes you that much for the tears, late nights, busy work, massive assignments with short working periods, tests, quizzes, labs, weight gain, weight loss, hair loss, those classes that don't count but are required, classes you had no interest in but were required, tests given and assignments due immediately after holiday weekends or vacation, the price of books, tuition, fees oh God! FEES!, and especially [insert favorite gripe here]. I believe in your Class of 2023. The future won't be yours if you don't start acquiring it now. And Towson? Be better. Suck less.
Easy of parking, plenty of staff for directions. Event started on time and was conducted with efficiency
Have only been here a few times when the MD Marching Band State competitions were held. Very comfortable, heavily staffed and organized. The only comment I have is they made me dump out my portable water bottle at the gate. Then charge $4.50 for a bottle of water. Guides were positioned at the entrances to Towson U. who told people where to park.
Very clean stadium filled with Towson Pride.
Very nice facility, but got a serious runaround to find the correct way into the parking lot I was assigned, the concessions were absurdly slow I missed a quarter and a half of the game and I had to redirect the person giving me my order 4 times as he continued to try handing me things I didn't order, and the PA system was so loud it was literally hurting my head.
Towson U Home Stadium - attended Homecoming Football game against William & Mary. The Tribe handled the Tigers easily but great October weather.
Thank you for continuing to host the Maryland Special Olympics Summer Games each year! A wonderful tradition that athletes, families, volunteers, and coaches look forward to each year
