We're a FARM in Burlington's beloved INTERVALE that juices its crops to offer the people affordable, made-to-order raw juices - Truly FARM TO GLASS!!
JUICE FOR THE PEOPLE! - The Juice Bar exists to provide the people of Burlington and Vermont affordable, made-to-order raw juices created entirely from the freshest farm produce locally and organically grown - a majority of which is grown on our 4.1 acre farm in Burlington’s beloved Intervale.
AFFORDABLE - Fresh, unpasteurized "juicing" has been viewed as elitist and financially out of reach for the vast majority of the people (~$10.00 for 16 oz). With most other juice bars marketing almost exclusively to the affluent class, The Juice Bar, by maintaining mobile operations at farmers markets and by many other means, actively seeks to keep overhead costs as low as possible so we can continue to broaden public accessibility to high quality local, organically grown farm fresh produce through the highly consumable and convenient form of juicing.
Our FARM in Burlington's beloved INTERVALE- Opening our farm in Burlington's Intervale was only the latest move in our mission to lower our costs and increase the people's access to the healthful benefits of consuming raw, local and organically grown produce. The farm has allowed us to more fully connect with the land and the source of our kale, carrots, beets, cucumbers, spinach, rhubarb, sweet potatoes, watermelon, echinacea flowers and various other medical herbs we'll be juicing in the 2015 growing season. Operating our own farm also allows us to compost back into the already rich soil the insoluble juice pulp we create while dispensing tasty nutrition to the public at our farmers market operations.
FARMERS MARKETS - We believe that local food is the future, which is borne out by the growth of farmers markets here in Vermont and nationwide. People, for very good reason, are becoming increasingly conscious of where and how their family's food is grown, not to mention how far it travels in the back of a truck and how many hands it passes through. Our produce travels an average of just 2 miles from our farm to our various farmers markets. For these reasons, and so many more, during the 2015 growing season The Juice Bar will be operating exclusively at the following farmers markets:
Burlington Farmers Market (Saturdays - 8:30-2:00) http://www.burlingtonfarmersmarket.org
UVM Medical Center Farmers Market (Thursdays - 2:30-5:00)
HISTORY - Initially when we began operations in early 2012 we built a mobile juice bar out of recycled and repurposed bicycles equipping the same with solar panels to keep our batteries charged. We avoided opening a costly "bricks and mortar" juice cafe and instead opted to occupy a "kiosk" space just inside the entrance to Burlington Town Center Mall on Church Street. For exactly two years The Juice Bar successfully provided local, organically grown, farm fresh juicing to truly the broadest of our local demographic. During the "mall years" we educated and nourished a great many who would've never dreamt that they would end up regularly consuming a "green juice", such as our most popular recipe of kale, pear, lemon, ginger root and apple.
Although we did met with success in the mall, our heart lies in the community of farmers markets with most allowing for EBT or food stamp purchasing power. Our truest success in so many ways has come through our farmers market operations. We've been a member of the Burlington Farmers Market since 2012 with Mike being elected its Vice President in early 2015. We've also weekly attended the indoor, year-round farmers market at UVM Medical Center for the past two years and almost without fail we juice 60 juices in the first 60 minutes to the good doctors, nurses and medical staff of the hospital formerly known as Fletcher Allen.
As we enter into the 2015 growing season the future never looked so bright for the The Juice Bar. Regardless of where you may find us, whether waist deep tending to our acre of kale or whether at a local farmers market, our mission remains the same - juice for the people!
