K Space Art Studios
Founded in 1995 by artists, Erick and Raychelle Schaudies, with the generous cooperation of the Clower Company, the K Space Art Studios occupy the 3rd floor of the historic Kress Building in downtown Corpus Christi, TX. The K Space Art Studios were established in order to provide affordable studio spaces to local artists, a meeting place for contemporary art ideas, projects and functions as well as a place of camaraderie. Erick and Raychelle moved to Austin in 1999.
In 2000, under the leadership of artist, Michelle Smythe, K Space artists built what is now known as the "Schaudies Gallery", which continues to showcase contemporary artwork by local and regional artists. Michelle managed the gallery successfully until 2012, when she decided to focus solely on her position as the Director of K Space Contemporary (founded 2007). The reigns were handed over to artist, Diana Pena, who managed the studios from 2013 to 2015.
Since late 2015, the K Space Art Studios have been co-managed by artists: Gerald Lopez, Jimmy Pena and Day Wheeler. The studios continue to flourish today and remain a hub for local contemporary artists and exhibitions.
