We have lived here for 15 years and never realized this place was here! We have enjoyed their Christmas light show every year and were pleased to learn you could actually go through the trains! The gentleman who guided us was amazing and we learned a lot! He was even able to hold our autistic 9yo's attention...and that's no easy task. We paid $2.00 per adult, but I would have paid more!. The only downside was they didn't have a gift shop. Would have loved a pen, or mug. We did buy 2 postcards tho. I would allow about an hour to get through everything. 10 out of 10 experience!
Talk about knowledge of the past! These guys know their stuff. Wish it was a little bigger, so much more to learn from these guys. But what is there, it takes you back to a simpler time. Also, bring cash!
This is a great place for bringing kids for their first taste of railroading. Nice working trains and whistle sound effects.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
Very friendly staff here. Jim gave us a truly enjoyable tour teaching us about the different responsibilities of the folks that worked for the railroads at those times and the functions of the different cars. A gem of history offering a glimpse into the past for all ages to experience travel at that time.
It was so nice! We learned so much about Kankakee railroad the museum was only two dollars for adults my beautiful granddaughter was free.
For indoor & outdoor parties are great to have there. The space to have the food & the bar. Also, to see the museum next door.Visited onWeekend
I am 71 and grew up here. The display matches the real past. It's detailed perfectly. Children and adults will love it.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entryFree
Although a very small place, they are doing a magnificent job. The indoor museum and model railroad displays are nice. The restored rolling stock is the highlight! The passenger coach and caboose are fairly standard, but the local trolley is outstanding and unique! Every rail buff in the area needs to check them out.

We were driving back from Urbana and decided to check out Kankakee on the way home, and just stumbled upon this place. Fantastic model trains and displays. I could have easily looked at them for a long time, there were so many features and items to check out, including diverse miniature buildings, signs, people, lights, and other items that added to the complexity of the model towns. We also got a tour of the train cars and notable items. The volunteers there are knowledgeable and friendly. Great spontaneous experience, and they seem to really care about what they're doing there.
