Kelly Steele graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1990. A former prosecutor, he has been practicing criminal defense for over 24 years.
Iowa native Kelly Steele graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1990. Kelly then began his legal career as a prosecutor.
In 1994, Kelly started his own law firm in the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids Corridor, practicing primarily in criminal defense. Over the past 20 years, Kelly has represented over 3,000 adults & juveniles with their legal matters, which has included over 50 jury trials.
"With most of my cases, I take a two-prong approach. First, I prepare my case for trial, by investigating the facts and analyzing potential defenses. At the same time, I also attempt to obtain a reasonable plea agreement that would be acceptable to both my client and the State."
Kelly has previously been involved with numerous boards and civic organizations, including Daybreak Rotary, the Linn County Board of Health, the Knox Presbyterian Church Board of Directors, and the Jr. Cougars Girls Basketball Board of Directors. In addition, Kelly served 6 years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Kelly enjoys participating in and watching sporting events, traveling, reading, coaching youth sports, and spending time with his family.
A "bucket list:" guy, Kelly enjoys achieving high personal goals. In the past three years, Kelly has climbed Mt. Rainier, skydived twice, climbed Pikes Peak three times, and has completed an Ironman Triathlon.
