Great trails and views all over the mountain! If you come to the mountain Mon_fri you will have the option to freely drive up the mountain road. Bathrooms are available at the entrance to the mountain.
Beautiful views. Different trail difficulties to choose from. Plenty of parking in overflow lot if needed. One of our favorite hiking locations.
Amazing. I parked at the overflow lot and walked because that parking lot closes at 8:30pm. The visitors building parking lot closes at 6:30pm. Nice walk. Some places were steep. Watch your footing going back down. Great exercise.
Before moving to Georgia from out of state, this was one of the top places on a bunch of lists to visit. It was... fine? There are some really good views to Atlanta from the top of the mountain, and it's fun reading about the Civil War, etc, on the signs they have on the trail/at the top, but it wasn't mind-blowing. The hike is a mile up if you start at the bottom, and it is not a beginner hike. It's not suuuuper difficult, but there are stones and roots all over the trail you have to navigate over, so if anyone is a fall risk, don't hike here. The cannons at the top were pretty cool to look at.
For a quick and local hike, this trail is nice. Parking can be a bit hectic, as everyone describes, but I appreciated the ability to pay online I’m usually without service by this point and can only go in if I don’t have cash on hand. The trails are super short but continued on toward Pigeon Hill for more distance. This part of the trail was way less crowded, offered more elevation gain and decents, and was mostly covered by the canopy to keep you cool. Views of the city early on the trails we’re nice, and of course crowded. Saw lots of older couples and families out, that was refreshing. Encouraged a few to take it slow going up the inclines, and remember to breathe, elevation gains are no jokes to the lungs. I knocked out about 5.5 miles, and stopped to enjoyed lunch on top of a boulder missed pitching my hammock. I wish there were more clearings to enjoy the views up top but for a local hike, it was nice. A saw a few in flip flops and would highly encourage closed toe shoes for the many rocks you tackle out and back.
Great view. I like that you can choose to drive or walk up. Pace yourself, walking up can leave you quite winded.
It's easy to see why this is the busiest national park battlefield. Hikes were fantastic and you can feel the history
Nice hike. Lots of shade. Wear shoes you’re comfortable climbing up and down some well placed rocks.
Worth a visit! We hiked up the Pigeon Hill trail and really enjoyed the experience. Lots of history!
Parking can be limited near the visitor center, but there is overflow parking nearby. Parking permits are available at the visitor center, so stop by there first, if needing to park at overflow parking; otherwise, you'll have to walk back with the parking permit. Beautiful scenery, historic cannons, and occasional literature. There is a closed road route that's less strenuous but beautiful as well. Views are exquisite!
