How it All Began
By Kenneth B. Klinzing
The firm of Kenneth B. Klinzing C.P.A.; S.C. was originally founded by Bernard “Bernie” Klinzing, my father and it dates back to 1953. Bernie operated the firm under the name of Klinzing & Associates. After Bernie served in the U.S. Navy he returned to St. Cloud , Wisconsin and attended college at the University of Wisconsin . Bernie graduated with honors and received a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting. Bernie worked for a small accounting firm while he attended college to help support his family. Upon graduation Bernie started his own accounting firm to provide accounting and tax services that met the needs of small businesses. The same principles that Bernie founded his firm on are still being practiced today. His client base included small companies and he specialized in family owned and operated businesses. He operated the firm with his wife Catherine, employed me, his brother Eugene “Gene” Klinzing, his son-in-law John Nelson and his sister-in law Joan Manowski. My brother Mark was employed by the firm for about 3 years until his departure. Hence, Bernie's firm knew first hand what it was like to be a small family business.
I started working for my father's firm when I was about 10 years old. My first job was emptying the trashcans and sweeping the floors. As I got older my father started me doing some basic accounting work such as book keeping. At the age of 16, I was preparing simple W-2 tax returns. I started working full time for my father in December 1975, after I graduated from the University of Oshkosh . On October 12th, 1979 I was licensed by the state of Wisconsin as a Certified Public Accountant. My father sold me the business on January 1, 1986 and the name of the firm was changed from Klinzing & Associates to Kenneth B. Klinzing, C.P.A., S.C.
In late 1986, my brother Mark and I merged our accounting firms to form Klinzing & Klinzing , S.C. We practiced together until August 1990 and then decided to go our separate ways. Again the only major change was the firm's name which reverted back to Kenneth B. Klinzing C.P.A., S.C. The firm's name may have changed but the beliefs and philosophies that my father instilled for over thirty years still remain till this day.
