Making sure every baby has the chance to celebrate their first birthday
The rate of infants in Kenosha County who die before their first birthday is greatest among African American families. In 2006, Kenosha County had an African American infant mortality rate of 18.0, which is 4 times the rate for white infants. In 2007, the rate in the city of Kenosha was 16.4. While the rate has decreased, the ratio between Black/White infant deaths in the city of Kenosha has consistently been five times the rate of white infants from 2003 – 2007. Kenosha County has the largest disparity between Black and White infant mortality in the state of Wisconsin.
The primary goal of the Kenosha Lifecourse Initiative for Healthy Families is to improve the health status of African American women over the lifespan, leading to healthy birth outcomes.
