Students majoring in Pan-African Studies have career options marketing, business, psychology, music, entertainment, telecommunications, human resources, counseling, sales, securities, international marketing & non-profit organizations.
The Department of Pan-African Studies (DPAS) has a dual mission. Its academic mission is to offer a comprehensive, holistic, academic experience grounded in the knowledge base, cultural norms, traditions, and histories of diverse groups of people of African descent, whether on the African continent or within the African Diaspora.

The second part of the DPAS mission is to educate and inform the Kent State University and larger community about African and African derived cultural expressions, and in so doing, strengthening student and departmental ties with the larger community.
Students learn the importance of informed judgment, and life-long learning; students develop specialized understanding, specialized and general knowledge and skills that they are prepared to apply responsibly in new and complex settings
Students are involved in learning based in inquiry, evidence analysis, critical and creative thought, and collaborative problem-solving
Students gain intercultural knowledge and competencies through students’ direct involvement in research, creative activity, community outreach, and through progressively more challenging problems, projects, and standards of performance across the disciplines
