Kettering, and his wife Virginia were native citizens of Dayton. They moved to Hinsdale, Illinois near Chicago in the 1940s. During the polio epidemic in the 1950s, they were inspired by the care given at Hinsdale Hospital, which would play a vital role in the foundation of Kettering Medical Center. Following the death of his father in 1958, Eugene and his family moved from Illinois back to Dayton to help manage family affairs. Health care was a primary focus of Charles Kettering, so Eugene and Virginia led efforts to open a local area hospital in his honor. Ground was broken on July 7, 1961. In 1964, Charles F. Kettering Memorial Hospital opened under the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The ER folks were very attentive and helpful in making decisions. The ICU nurses were attentive and caring. Erin and Tyler were the nurses that were with me the most. They were great and Erin was wonderful. My last night I was moved to a room in 5 East. Nurses Julie and Jenny were very good. Every doctor I encountered was informative and showed great concern for me. Dr. Patel and his staff were kind, gentle, and made sure I was clear as to what they were doing. Dr. Patel was great in talking to my family when the procedure was complete. The only complaint is not having more convenient parking for the ICU visitors. My wife had a long hike from the parking garage, and at 74 it was tiring. Also it was a holiday on Monday and the cafeteria closed at 2:00. There was no sign to let visitors know that. Several people and I were waiting for more than 20 minutes before someone came and told us they were closed.
Had a wonderful birth experience! All my care staff was super nice and comforting. Felt very well taken care of! My sister in law and myself ended up delivering on the same day with the same labor nurse on our father in laws birthday! It was a great day!!
It was fine. The ER room was disgusting with the previous patients blood splatter and trash. When we got into a room it was fine, except it took forever to get a nurse or aid to come to the room if we paged them. Sometimes they weren't even told we needed them. We were there for a week.
I was here for childbirth and had a great experience the nurses in labor and delivery and postpartum were fantastic. Kaitlyn, my day nurse, in mother and baby helped me after two long days of labor and an unplanned c-section. She was so kind and helped me my first trip out of bed and fist breastfeeding experience. Doctors and nurses were wonderful.
On the night of sept. 21st 2023 around 730 I had a nurse named Sara. Not sure of her last name but she was wonderful. She took great care of me and was happy to do anything i needed. She went above and beyond making sure i was comfortable and had whatever i needed or even wanted. I felt completely safe with her and felt comfortable telling her anytime something was wrong and did not feel like a burden when asking her for something. She was so sweet and had the biggest heart. You can tell she is happy to do her job and loves caring for others. I was blessed to have experienced her Care during my stay. Best nurse I have ever seen. Hopefully this review makes it back to her some way so she can know how amazing she is.
The RN Vickie was sensational. She was always checking on me and taking care of my needs. She was very joyful to be around. It was nice to see this caliber of person as one of your employees I know that she had other patients but made time to take care of all. When Dr Schwartz came he had prayer with us. It was relaxing that a believer was in charge of my procedure. With people like this your hospital will always be the best.
I was very pleased with my stay at Kettering Medical main campus. All the nurses were the sweetest, caring most gentle people. They were patient and kind. And helped my husband and I through labor and delivery and the recovery process. After 28 hours after her born they waited for us to pick a name. We love you all! Special thanks to floor 4 delivery nurses Natalie and Jen and the recovery nurses Kaitlyn and Brittany. You ladies made my stay at the hospital wonderful and non stressful. Thanks so much!!
I am very happy with the care I received while at Kettering Health Main Campus. All of my nurses and aids were very competent, attentive and dependable. I almost didn't want to leave because it seemed like we all became friends. I admire the honesty and dedication from every single one of them. I feel all the doctors and their teams were honest and forthright with me. Because of this, I had to stay an extra day. My body wasn't ready for the procedure that was needed. I appreciate that the procedure wasn't performed until my body was ready. I also am grateful everything was explained to me in layman's terms. All of my questions were answered. Anytime my husband or I need to go to the hospital, Kettering Health Main Campus is our first choice. We know we will receive the best care there!
I had a scheduled C-section, and every nurse, doctor, and staff member I interacted with was absolutely fantastic. I felt that my daughter, husband, and I were all well cared for and supported. Would absolutely recommend this hospital for labor and delivery to anyone.
My experience in the emergency room was excellent. I got immediate care and believe they saved my life. I was admitted and the first day my needs were completely met and nurses and staff were in and out of my room. However my second day was completely different. I went 7 hours without seeing a nurse. When I came back from my surgery a nurse did not even check to be sure I was back in my bed and that I was ok. My wife and son took care of me
