What is a concierge tax practice?
Although I have clients in twelve states and provinces, the majority are located in the metro-Detroit area.
The concierge service comes from the fact that I prefer to work in my clients’ homes or offices. It is more convenient for them to schedule a time in the evening or weekends where I can come over, spend an hour or so, and complete a return right at their kitchen table. If there are any questions regarding documents, everything should be right at hand. It beats having to go out in the cold that is normal for Michigan this time of year!
I also use a secure web portal to transfer documents for both my out of state and local clients. If you can attach a picture to an email, you can use my portal. Follow ups are handled via email or telephone calls. (I will not accept confidential information such as forms with SSNs via email for your protection. They must go through the portal.) Once the tax return is completed, it is uploaded to the portal for review and signature. The documents remain there for the client’s convenience indefinitely; I’ve had several clients tell me that they appreciated being able to pull several years of tax returns for mortgage applications without needing to be in direct contact and waiting for me to get them documents.
A concierge service allows me to offer clients a personal touch that may not be available to a tax professional with a much larger client base. I enjoy meeting clients and their families and hearing stories about their homes and their pets. In many cases, those are conversations that can lead to more tax questions and better refunds!
