Most parents don’t know why their kids are acting out of control, anxious, or regressing in their development. It's so frustrating not knowing what your child is thinking or feeling. So I use the therapeutic power of play with current brain research to achieve short-term, practical solutions to restore stability for the child and peace in the home.

While I have yet to request counseling for my grandson, I did read through the "15 Signs of Childhood Anxiety and How to Help." The mood chart is helpful, but asking a 2 year old about his anxiety is not going to elicit much response. Most of the signs seem geared more toward children who are in school and who can verbalize their feelings. When I observe him getting anxious, I do take a moment to hug him, look him in the eyes, and tell him what I am doing to help him feel better. That usually works.
Lydia Alter is an extremely compassionate therapist who takes the time to listen without judgement. Humble, kind, and welcoming, she invites everyone she meets with open arms. She takes the time to get to know you, to understand what you need, and to give you the tools and resources you need to be your best. I highly recommend Lydia to anyone looking for extra therapy support.
One of the bests staff Professional Development trainings we have had! From a Director/Teacher's point of view, Susan from Kid Matters gave my staff at Hinsdale Community Preschool valuable information for working with our preschool students! From brain development to anxiety I feel my staff has great tools to utilize when working with our preschoolers. From an individual and parent point of view Susan's information was so helpful in dealing with my own anxiety in various situations as well as my children's. I will highly recommend Kid Matters Counseling to all of our preschool families! A great supportive resource!
Lydia is an excellent clinician! She is intentional, warm and welcoming. She is highly dedicated and caring to her clients and their families. I highly recommend her!
Sarah is devoted to helping kids heal from trauma, and has years of experience to draw from to ensure a positive outcome. I recommend her to any parent looking for extra support. Her knowledge, passion and commitment truly sets her apart! Thank you for all your help!
I started out loving Kid Matters Counseling, especially my sons therapist Leigh. She was amazing, so loving, kind, easy to talk to for myself and especially my 4yr old son. She figured out how best to make him comfortable extremely quickly and they formed an amazing bond. He would call his therapy day “Leigh Day” and looked forward to it every week. My son was a client here for 1yr. Unfortunately due to policies & unforeseen circumstances on my end, the supervisor/owner was unable to help my son. Be weary of the policy you sign and how much money they require for legal help when your child is already in a hard spot. You will never be able to pay the amounts, which can add up to over 4,000$+ AND the fees for legal help. I am also extremely upset and disappointed in the establishment due to abruptly cancelling my sons final appointment with his therapist as we were on our way, an hour drive, so my son never got to say goodbye to the wonderful woman who has been helping him with his anxiety. He was distraught and almost inconsolable when I informed him we would not being seeing Leigh, even though we were on our way. I would recommend looking elsewhere for true care of clients well-being.
I've worked with Sarah for many years and she truly has a gift for connecting and working with kids through play therapy. She is creative and utilizes various techniques to meet the needs of each individual client. I have loved to see how kids light up and engage with her, while working through some difficult things.
Sarah and I worked together at Heritage Behavioral Health Care. She is gifted in working with children struggling with anxiety. I highly recommend her to any family. I’m excited about her starting at Kid Matters Counseling!
I worked with Sarah for several years at Heritage Behavioral Health Center. She works very well with children of all ages and and backgrounds. I especially recommend her to any parent whose child is experiencing symptoms of ADHD or trauma. She is caring and compassionate.
We worked with the therapist Molly and she was fantastic. Her initial intake appointment with us was so thorough - she listened well, really comprehended the issues we were facing, and dug deeper to really understand everything holistically. She was so well versed in a variety of different methods of working with children. My daughter absolutely loved her. We're glad to not "need" to be going here anymore but certainly will miss her!
