I am going to Stanton IB and I went to Kirby smith. If you work hard in this school it will pay off. Also, great sport teams and extracurricular activities. Although at times there are some small arguments around the school, the issue usually gets handled very well by the school staff. All in all I recommend this school for anyone who wants to succeed in life.
The staff was exceptional! My kids have greatly enjoyed going to Kirby. I would definitely recommend it for those who have kids interested in math, science and technology. They also have excellent soccer and swim teams.
This school has been a great experience for me the two years I have been here. I have barely seen any bullying here at all. even when you are the teachers respond quickly. One instance was when i was in 6th grade i had a fellow classmate keep poking me in the back with a mechanical pencil. I told a teacher and they acted immediately and now me and the classmate are good friends. Most all of the teachers are great and supportive. This is the first time I have gotten all a's since third grade! The electives are great such as video game design where they also now have a 3D printer. I am also on the robotics team now advancing to the state finals where i hope we will continue.
Not at all impressed with this school thus far this year. The directing of traffic after school pick up is horrible. The staff directing traffic is very rude. My child is exceeding in all of his classes except this one teacher whom is very much unorganized and always misplacing assignments or either don't grade them when needed so. My child stresses about getting a good grade in this class and no matter how hard my child tries she still manages to not give him a good grades above D. I put my child at this school because I heard nothing but good things about this school over the years but not so much impress anymore! So if you have a upcoming sixth grader do not place them in DevanneJones class. So unprofessional! Not to mention I had a teacher/parent conference with this teacher the day after the Super Bowl which she missed no call/no shoe but claim she was sickmore like an hangover. Then sent home an elementary teacher/parent conference sheet explaining why she missed the conference I showed up to instead of calling. Im fed up so I had to share my experience thus far!
Hello My name is Hayden Staples and I live in California and in the ninth gradepast middle school my Elementary school was slowly declining, when I heard that Kirby Smith was a technology math and science school I couldn't wait until I got out of elementary school. When I got there as I was not gifted yet so i was stuck in an advanced class. But when Mr Ohmann the recruiter that you might have seen on the tours saw my skill he worked to get me in to the gifted program. He proceeded to then be my favorite teacher along with Ms. Roebuck, Mrs. Flis, and Mr. Mechmech. Please ignore the reviews of my... other peers, who rated this school poorly I knew them all personally and they loved this school greatly and I hope you will too.
this school was pretty good i liked it here a lot. I moved to Maryland for 8th grade though :. Most of the teachers there are amazing and dedicated to helping their students but if you slack then you fail. I miss going to Kirby even though it's pretty ghetto at times :,.
@Tammy Cao my daughter has been going to Kirby for 6th & 7th grade and i am VERY, HIGHLY ACTIVE with her and with the school. I've never heard of a girl being rapped in the bathroom. As far as the bullying goes that's going to be at any school you attend sweetie. Kirby is a GREAT school when it comes to the academics all of my daughters teachers played and/or are playing an active roll in my child's success. I'm not sure if you were hanging out with the wrong crowd but Kirby Smith is an excellent school and i love it, and so does my daughter. I honestly feel that any child which has a problem with Kirby Smith probably isn't doing what he/she should be doing in the first place. School is all about what you make it. If you felt that the teachers were not doing their part then as a student you should address those concerns with your parents. But also remember the teachers have to teach the class as a whole if you are a fast learner filled w/ a class of moderately slower learners as a teacher you have to gauge that and teach accordingly. When you kids get a little older you will come to realize that middle is the hardest age range for schooling and it prepares you for the real world. You aren't babies anymore the teachers aren't there to treat you as such they are there to provide the material and teach it the best way they know how. It also takes the parents to get involved with the children to see some results. Just something to think about before you all go placing the blame on teachers. When you have children you will see. Good Day.
Kirby-Smith may have its ups and downs but it is a very good school i really like the school and the kids are very nice and cool there they may play around but the do get there work done I dont like the dresscode. I think that all the people who dont like kirby should just go to another school and plus thats your opinion. it not a bad school have get program and all by a 6th grader who thinks kirby is ok
I like this lace because it's a good magnet school and they have the right education for your child and they will make sure that you are safe like when the first hurricane Irene came they made sure we had hurricane drills. I think the only thing I dislike about this school is that you have to tuck in your shirts and then you can't have your phone on in case of a emergency how you going to call someone. On Fridays and you have P.E. you have to go outside and run around the feild in 12 minutes.
I can't rate it 3.5 stars, but that is what i would give it. It is a mediocre school in terms of experience in my opinion, but it makes up for it with certain teachers. The choice of teachers in this school is what really kills me. For the past two years the school has been so ill prepared when it comes to teachers. In the beginning of the 2013-2014 year, there were almost 90 children per elective class, and every elective period we had to sit in the auditorium and do nothing, as that many kids can't fit in a classroom, or be taught. This year 2014-2015 the school didn't hire a science teacher until almost the second quarter, and that teacher isn't engaging at all. The school assigned a "Writing/Reading Enrichment" class to Pioneer, a team comprised of mostly higher level students, and the teacher had a stroke on the second day We miss her, and it took the school almost 7 weeks to hire a replacement, and the replacement teacher is experienced in every job on the face of the earth so i do not understand why he wanted to teach. The reason i gave it 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 is because the school has some of the most outstanding teachers i have ever met. Such as Mr.Mechmech. Mr.Mechmech is a pre-algebra and algebra 1 teacher. He is the best teacher I have ever met in my life. He Doesn't let kids astray. He keeps them engaged at all times and keeps everyone happy while doing it. All of his Algebra 1 classes in the 2013-2014 year passed the state EOC. Not a single child failed. He would skip his lunch to help people. He also teaches college courses. He would always turn a boring math problem into a fun group effort in a way in which everyone would learn. Another example of an excellent teacher is Mrs.Flis. She is the 6th grade world history teacher. We only used textbooks for homework and reference. Our big projects every quarter, artifacts would be amazing. Say we were studying ancient Rome. We would to interactive activities on the computers, have group discussion amongst the class, have creative writing assignments in attempt to debunk a mystery, and everything fun. I would recommend this school, but only if you are gifted or advanced. For more context read Bric Friday's review. Thank you.
