Salt Lake Kiwanis has served the community for more than one hundred years. Club members consider service to children to be “Priority One.” The Club operates a monthly “Terrific Kids” program to honor young leaders at the middle school level, assists with decorations and other activities at the Neighborhood House preschool, was a founder of Kiwanis-Felt boys and Girls Club, and supports local high school Key Clubs. Once each month, Salt Lake Kiwanis provides and distributes food at the homeless shelter. Each year, the Club honors individual teachers for the
outstanding efforts they make to educate children. Annually, at least one meeting is devoted to honoring the young men and women who distinguish themselves in local ROTC units. Periodically, the Club takes on special projects to serve specific needs of young children—from working to reduce incidents of “shaken-baby” injuries to supporting the life-saving iodization of salt around the world.
Salt Lake Kiwanis meets every Thursday at Noon at the Joseph Smith Memorial
Building (formerly Hotel Utah) to plan service activities and learn more about the community from those who are directly involved in community improvement.
Membership includes men and women representing a variety of professional interests. New members are always welcome!
Salt Lake Kiwanis is one of several local Kiwanis clubs tied to Kiwanis International, a world-wide organization with almost half a million members. The name “Kiwanis” comes from and Indian word which denotes community building and service.
