McDonough County Virtual Kiwanis Club is a member of Kiwanis International serving McDonough County, Illinois.
“Kiwanis is global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child, and one community at a time.” Kiwanis Virtual Club of McDonough County takes a view of the word community as meaning the entire county and other areas that share interests in common, such as a school district extending into a town not in McDonough County. The club will strive to meet identified unmet needs in the community. Chartered July 1, 2013, the Kiwanis Virtual Club of McDonough County, Illinois operates as internet club supported by other modes of communication. The general business, service projects, and fundraiser planning are done in part over the internet. This is a relatively new concept of operation in Kiwanis clubs. One face to face meeting is held per month for those who want to meet to review progress on service projects and fundraisers. Planning meetings are held as needed by the leaders and members involved in projects. Members are expected to be at service projects of interest to them. Fundraisers are very important to the club operation and everyone should try to attend. Some of the service projects and fundraisers: Kiwanis Design – trauma dolls and lap quilts; Kiwanis Cards and Games; McDonough County food programs-- Kids Against Hunger, weekend sack/ backpack programs, and community gardens; McDonough County Kids CAN project for 8-12 year old children; a club charter event to welcome the community into the club; the district spastic paralysis research effort; and KI’s worldwide Eliminate- Maternal Neonatal Tetanus campaign. Each project and fundraiser will be discussed in detail at a later date.
