So disappointed after reading a few good reviews. The prices are very high for what we had. Entrees were ONLY the protein on the plate and nothing else. In an earlier review there was a side - so cut backs have hit. Oysters Rockefeller were missing the cheese. The 2 stars are because the Mushroom Risotto was creamy, tasty and a decent portion. Wines by the glass were over priced and there was only 1 beer available. IMO trying to be too high end.
The atmosphere in the garden is superb. It's a lovely environment. The two appetizers we ordered, oysters and escargot, were delicious. It took our entrees close to two hours to arrive. The lamb was cooked well but nothing to write home about for the price tag. The gnocchi was extremely overcooked, it was like eating mini hockey pucks and the artichoke hearts were chewy. We will not be going back.
Wow. What can I say what a great place to host a special event. The owners were very attentive for our celebration of life. They have an outside garden that is just beautiful for reception and an inside venue that is very family-friendly for a group of 25 to 40 people. Food was outstanding as well as the staff was attentive and friendly. It was just a great place to have this special event. They even made personalized menus in memorial. The scallops, filet, and wild mushroom pasta were all delicious. Parking: Lots of onsite parking
I am a notoriously picky eater, and I have been to a lot of restaurants in Milwaukee and typically only leave reviews when things are less than stellar. But let me tell you the experience that I had at the White House this evening was borderline life-changing. The atmosphere was not only romantic and intimate but the food was by far the best I’ve ever had in Milwaukee. Chef Alexander’s menu had both my fiancé and I speechless! We chose from their great wine selection and started our meal with oysters Rockefeller, followed by our entrées Filet Diane and they’re scallops which had the best sweet potato risotto and then finishing with the crème brûlée and pomegranate sorbet infused with tequila. Allison, the owner made a point to come over and thank us for our patronage and to wish us a great meal. Overall 10/10 for both service and quality…I’m shocked they have not won a James beard award. We will be making a point to return regularly! Parking: Parking lot available off kinnickinnic
Food was fantastic! Service outstanding! Absolutely wonderful dinning outside in the garden if you can.Food: 5/5
Food was delicious when we went but could have used 4 scallops vs 3 in the dish we had. Would have been 5 stars on the food then. Place was nice on the inside but outside wasnt the best representation. Staff was attentive and on the ball.Food: 4/5
Amazing Anniversary dinner at The White House Bay View! We’ve been wanting to check this place out for a long time and it did not disappoint. The fresh daily menu was amazing from cheese board to burrata salad, escargot, Wagyu with parsnip purée and white asparagus, gnochetti primavera and amazing cheese cake dessert. We will definitely be back to an ever changing menu! This restaurant is definitely the place to celebrate an amazing occasion. The hospitality here is second to none. #anniversary #anniversarydinner #finedining #wine #cheese #steak #pasta #cheesecake
Beautiful setting, complete with elegant candle lit tables and romantic old charm. I kept rereading the menu and was already thinking "I can't wait to come back here and try more!" The drinks and food were above and beyond. The Red Snapper, Hanger of Steer, and White House salad seen in pictures were flavorful and unique. Every bite was perfection! Thank you Alison and Sampson!
What a gem! A truly one-of-a-kind experience. The entire team here is incredible. I came in for the first time a month ago and had a steak. It was perfect. I gave my compliments to the chef, and when I returned a couple weeks later, he recognized me and came out of the kitchen to greet me and make recommendations. That time I ordered the bavette steak, which was a perfect 10 out of 10. All of the staff are so friendly and take such great pride in their work. This is a magical place that takes you back in time. I'll be back!
I lived in Milwaukee for the majority of my life, so when I heard a friend telling me that we were going to The White House for dinner, it conjured images of what the iconic tavern in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee. Fine dining was not what came to mind. Add to that, having lived in Las Vegas for the past 6 years, I have come to appreciate ready access to a multitude of outstanding restaurants and their respective chefs. I am reluctantly writing this review, because my fear is that it might ultimately mean getting a table will be difficult in the future. To say that I was surprised would be a gross understatement. From the moment I walked in, it was an escape from the bitter Wisconsin cold. I immediately found myself in a warm, cozy, and intimate space. I had been in the establishment in its previous life, and it was now transformed into a true fine dining establishment. The character of the venue is subtle, welcoming, and classic. The historic bar and cooler doors on the wall anchor the room, while the plants and candles make you immediately feel comfortable. The staff understands not just the essence service, but making it personal. Allison, the owner, and Grant, the general manager, are ever present. I noticed not only their interaction with me, but with all of the guests, making every table feel important, and valued. Finally, there was food. Every course was a wonderful surprise, not only in terms of presentation, but in every element of the dishes themselves. Presentation, layers of flavors providing both balance and contrast, and texture, carry through each of the courses. By the time you are finished, it becomes difficult to say what your favorite part of your meal was. Chef Anthony Troisi has tremendous attention to detail, executing each dish with personal care. Milwaukee has numerous high end restaurants. However, I cannot think of a single one that can present a such a complete fine dining experience as The White House. The historic venue, the personal and professional service, the warm and cozy ambience, and outstanding food all combine to make dining here an intimate experience. 7/29/2022 - Update It’s been a year since I had the pleasure of dining at The White House. Many establishments can shine when they get started, and can’t maintain that initial momentum. This is not one of those situations. Last night we had the opportunity to dine outside by the garden, which made for a beautiful evening. The food seems to have gotten even better, and combined with a very respectable and reasonably priced wine list, it made for a memorable evening. The elk tenderloin, with mushroom and truffle risotto, gastrique, and white asparagus was spectacular. The desserts were incredible , and were as good, if not better than similar dishes from chefs holding some of those coveted stars. In Milwaukee’s food scene, Allison and her staff at The White House truly shine. Can’t wait to go back.
