An American owned & operated enterprise offering an exsquisite assortment of natural, glittery, and designer combined yarns on cones as well as hanks.
About 20 years ago, Ellen, a young American fresh out of graduate school, began her career with the Sunray Yarn Company in NY. Sunray supplied Cravenella and other popular yarns to the Melrose Yarn co. When both Sunray and Melrose closed their doors, this savvy young entrepeneur decided to start up her own company continuing to carry the same beloved yarns. Alas, the "birth" of Lucci Yarn, an American owned & operated co. Ellen quickly renamed Cravenella to woolcrepe & the metallic version to Velrexy. As Ellen continued to supply the garment industry in NY with these yarns on cones, the same yarns for handknitting disappeared. In 2010, Ellen & Nancy Boccuzzi(a hand knitwear designer) became acquainted and very dear friends. The hand knitting division of Lucci Yarn was born. Nancy thoroughly enjoyed combining many of these exquisite yarns from comes into designer combination yarns for hand knitting along with a plethera of patterns that are made available to the shop owner at not charge to be used with the sale of Lucci Yarn.
Determined to keep as much of the yarn, dying, & put up in the United States, Ellen recently purchased a plying machine to be able to ply these combinations. Galaxy is the first yarn to be plied. It is 90% extra fine Merino wool from Italy & 10% mohair from Italy. Sometimes up to 8 different threadlike wool fibers were selected off the cones and then laboriously combined (by hand) in NY and then plied on the machine, and lastly wound into a long luxurious hank by hand. The pink confection pictured on the site with matching hat is worked from Galaxy trimmed with Lucci Faux Fur.
Lucci continues to add to the line. The majority of yarns are on cones and from the cones, hanks are laboriously put up by hand in NY by American workers. Lucci is very proud of this and continues to be devoted to the business practice of work in the United States. Please visit lucciyarn.com to peruse our yarns & garments.
