Everyone was so wonderful! The staff was incredibly kind. My son is 16 months and usually afraid of people he doesn’t know, but the dentist played with him beforehand and was able to check his teeth without my son getting upset. Everyone’s experience may differ, but ours was great!
Dr. Bo Townsend was absolutely not a good fit for us. He lacked patience, empathy, and compassion. His lack of communication and overall poor attitude gave my child a terrible fear of dental care/offices. Something that he never had issues with before. It has taken a couple of years to get his dental anxiety under control since being a patient at KPD. Never again.
First, I want to preface this review by saying it is lengthy, unbiased and unprovoked with no affiliation to this dentist. Second, I’m not an English major so if there are typos ungodly amounts of commas, possibly misplaced…my deepest apologies . Play by play: We arrive on time and we’re took back at our appointment time. Alyson greeted us warmly and showed us back. As we are walking into the room I noticed a rather concerned look on my 6 yr old daughter’s face she’s always extremely present and aware. So I asked “You ok? She shook her head yes, then no. Right after, Alyson asked “How are you today?” She gave her patented “I’m great!” She sat down and began to assess the room. Trying to settle in, I seen she was still a little concerned. So I asked again. , “Hey, you ok?” She shook her head no again. So I asked her what was wrong. She said what I thought was cold, so I offered her my sweater. She said In a disgruntled voice “Noooo.” And tipped her chin upwards to let me know she wanted to tell me something in my ear. So I lean down and she whispered “I’m scared.” I assured her that I was right there and that everything should be alright. She wanted to watch something on my phone to kind of distract her. It did momentarily, but then she has to get in the chair. She got in the chair, laid back for a few moments then rose up suddenly and said emotionally “Daddy…I’m scared.” So immediately I pick her up and hold her tight in my arms and tell her, “Hey baby girl.. Daddy is right here!!!” She starts to cry softly on my shoulder, almost inaudibly. Alyson immediately comforts her as well with gentle words and a motherly type tone of voice. Then tells me hey I’m going to give you two just a moment to talk alone. As I know a little privacy tends to help and if she is too uncomfortable and doesn’t want to do it, we won’t push it. So she leaves for a moment while I comfort her. Her shoulders begin to relax on my chest because she is now safely in my arms. She doesn’t say too much, just sniffles and snubs quietly. I just keep reminding her that I’m here. Just before they come in she does ask if it’s going to hurt. I don’t like lying to her so my response was “I don’t think so, but daddy is not sure”. Alyson and Dr. Perry come back in and asked her if she wanted to give it a try and that if at any moment she still felt uncomfortable that we would stop and not continue. I tell them she had something to ask. She ask them if it would hurt. Dr. Perry assured her very passionately and confidently, it would not hurt at all! My daughter agreed and they got to work posthaste. What they did not know was in the background was a father that every encounter save one he had with a dentist before age 18 was very painful and traumatic I say every with accuracy and without exaggeration. I watched their every move. I watched how they communicated and operated with such chemistry. I watched my daughter lay there and not once did she flinch the tell all response to dental pain. After noticing that she had not flinched even in the slightest. A single tear roll down my cheeks as reminisced on my daunting dentistry past. I swiped it quickly, because I rarely cry and I don’t want to ruin my reputation now lol. They are finished about 10-15 minutes and he asked her if she felt any pain. She shook her head no. So he kept his promise in hers eyes and mine. She got two prizes and a balloon. While I understand the business aspect of having a sense of urgency, we never felt rushed. It was personal and professional. We gave departing pleasantries and I left with an emotional high that I did not expect! Sincerely, An Observant and Caring Father
I don’t recommend this place rude and disrespectful it’s been a year since we made a appointment cuz of covid but being threaten to be called on cuz my son won’t brush his teeth and my baby had all his baby teeth pulled cuz dr perry said there was teeth trying to come thru tell me why it’s been a year and there is no teeth coming in and the last time my son got his teeth cleaned he got joked and spit the water on the nurse they quit brushing his teeth and got mad about it they are not kid friendly
Don't be fooled by ads Don't be fooled by ads Don't be fooled by ads do not recommend Knoxville Pediatric Dentistry in Farragut. My boys had been here for three years! Following info FYI: 1Dentists here have no patience. They do not try to talk with or distracted my boy when he had cavities with scary, otherwise she recommended us to other offices. 2They just wanna money, didn't care about teeth health of your sweet hearts. An dentist said two of my big boy's teeth bolcked the new teeth growing out on a well check up, so he applied some medicine to loose these two teeth, and planned another appointment giving him spacers several months later. however as we came to the second appointment, it was another dentist and he told us the new teeth had already come out, it was too late to install spacers. so I HAVE TO PAY MORE MONEY ON ORTHODONTICS for my boy. Why I have to pay more? WHY he has to suffer the pain?
AMAZING staff! My son had a previous bad experience at another dentist and the staff at Knoxville Pediatric was so kind and patient with him, his nervousness instantly faded and his appointment went amazing! Thank you to all the staff for going above and beyond yall are truly THE BEST!
Great dentist and hygienist for your children. Everyone here is nice, patient with my children especially my daughter who's afraid for dental work being done. Always gets her to calm down and relax. Dr. Fowler is always nice respectful, does good work. Great at answering all my questions about hereditary dental problems. Has always made us feel welcome has never scolded us nor the kids for slipping on flossing or anything like that, always reassuring of great dental care. I believe my children's teeth are in great hands with this great staff. Thanks for all the hard work.
Wow. What an amazing dental experience for my kids. They will actually look for to going back again and again! Fast and friendly and a perfect environment for kids!!
My experience may have been different if my child didn’t have sensory issues, but I feel like they have no patience with children who are scared or have issues with new people. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes because the dentist didn’t even sit down to check my child’s teeth. Our appointment was at 11 and we were in the car and leaving at 11:02. I had to fill out paperwork before we went back which took longer to do than it took for him to properly care for my child’s teeth. And my child was due for a routine cleaning and they didn’t even clean her teeth or put the fluoride on her teeth like they were asked to. Would not recommend anyone to go there.
The staff and doctor were wonderful. I took my 17 month old for the first time. They were all so patient and kind. They have several things in the lobby to keep kids of all ages occupied from a magnet board on the wall to computer games for the older ones. Absolutely wonderful experience and I will recommend them to everyone.
