Kountze Park

Description

Kountze Park is an urban public park located at 1920 Pinkney Street in the Kountze Place neighborhood of North Omaha, Nebraska, in the United States. The Park is historically significant as the site of the Trans-Mississippi Exposition of 1898.AboutKountze Park is bordered by 19th Street on the east and 20th Street on the west, Pinkney Street on the south and Pratt Street on the north. The park is the location of a water park, playground, basketball and tennis courts, and a pavilion. It is also home to a summer program operated by the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department.HistoryOnce on a broad, flat plain midway between the Nebraska Territory towns of Omaha and Saratoga, Kountze Park was part of a plot belonging to banker Herman Kountze.Trans-Mississippi Exposition SiteThe Grand Court of the Trans-Mississippi Exposition was located in Kountze Park in 1898. When the search committee sought to acquire a large parcel of land to locate the city's highlight attraction, Kountze's generous offer of 11acre of land for $15,000.00, plus a donation of $5000 worth of land for this future park, was ideal. The site was soon covered with buildings, boulevards, and a beautiful lagoon almost 1/2 mile long, lit by the latest technology of the times, electrical lights. The Greater America Exposition was held at the same location in many of the same buildings the following year. By the end of 1899, all of the buildings were demolished or removed. In the several years after the Exposition, the lagoon was filled in and the area was graded to form Kountze Park. Around the park a middle- and upper-class community grew, eventually forming a connection between Near North Omaha and Saratoga.

Trees aren't well kept, grass has not been mowed, tennis courts looks in desperate need of a make over.
Love the water park but that sand... Still has that sand.. but now there a skate loop by the tennis courts
Enjoyed the park. Had a meeting with other cars to do a birthday Drive by. It was cold but the park and neighborhood was clean.
A fun and important place for kids, families and the neighborhood today, the Kountze Park has long been an important place for ALL of Omaha. As the historic location of the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition, there's no other place like it in the city. I suggest visiting the three historic markers and the commemorative gazebo built to remember the expo as well as enjoying the fun activities and more!
Take my kid here at least 3 times a week and she absolutely loves it.
A very nice park in North Omaha on Florence Boulevard cross street Pinkney Street. It has a baseball diamond a basketball Court any tennis court any large playground for kids to play on. This was at one time the Midwest Expo location back to the early 1900s. At that time the neighborhood was just Dynamite. The only bad thing about it is Florence Boulevard runs through the middle of it and the boulevard runs all the way through North Omaha.
Need a little more work done to it but nice park
Simple park, has small splash park in summer. Great for the near by children. Basketball courts and a small pavilion. Could use a little improvement.
No water source
Waterpark is great. Usually not busy. Kids enjoy going here. Great park despite it's location.
