Krakow Witkin Gallery: presenting Minimal, conceptually-based and aesthetically reductivist art in all media.
Boston, MA
Krakow Witkin Gallery features contemporary art of all media by emerging and established regional, national and international artists. The overall focus is on Minimal, reductivist and conceptually-driven works.
The gallery has been exhibiting artists since 1959. Since 1983, it has been in its 10 Newbury Street, Boston space and, since 2017, as Krakow Witkin Gallery (Barbara Krakow Gallery, Harcus Krakow Gallery, Harcus Krakow Rosen Sonnabend, Parker 470 and Carriage House Gallery being the prior incarnations).
Krakow Witkin Gallery has a commitment to an extensive, yet focused group of artists known as part of the movements commonly called “Minimalism” and/or “conceptual art,” along with younger artists who have come to renown since the 1960s with a similar reductivist aesthetic. The gallery’s exhibition program runs three shows simultaneously with six to seven rotations over the course of the September - July season. During each cycle, there is one larger show, one smaller show and one show of a single work. This juxtaposition of types of exhibition gives viewers three different rigorous contexts with which to view work and consider various ideas of presentation. The gallery strives to provide a welcome, open, friendly and educationally-rich environment in which to observe, study and learn about the art and artists.
The gallery assists newer viewers and admirers as well as working with museums, curators and private collections. All visitors are appreciated and welcomed. Staff are available to assist the public in many ways - from discussing the art, to issues of evaluation, purchasing, framing, shipping, insuring, installing, conserving and even deaccessioning (selling). Krakow Witkin Gallery aims to help not just in sales, but in education, demystification and the increase of appreciation of the creative arts.
As long-standing members of the greater Boston community, the gallery is devoted to participating in and supporting local communities. The staff would be happy to suggest activities, people and places to explore and/or connect with in the greater Boston area.
There is street parking as well as parking lots nearby. The closest MBTA stop is on the Green Line at Arlington Street and a less than 10 minute walk from Back Bay Station (Orange line and commuter rail).
