South dining hall is the best you can get. Unlimited dining at its finest. Order a burger or pizza at the kiosk and play some pool while you wait. It'll be a sad day when I graduate.Food: 5/5
We spent the day at KU and ate at the dining hall. It has a large open dining area both on the first and second floors. We ate lunch on the second floor and other than a very overdone cheeseburger all else was very good and well prepared. The salad bar had a good selection of toppings and sides. It was very clean and has a great deal of glass windows so it seems open and inviting. There is a lot of variety in the selection of foods available depending on your tastes.
The staff is running low and they can’t run at full capacity. I believe the workers are excellent. Since it’s such a large place tables and counters go unclean. Self serve food often gets mixed, which is not good for people with allergies or those who just don’t want meat in their sour cream, it’s unsanitary. As a whole there aren’t many options, the food is often bland and undercooked, and they don’t even have a seasoning bar available with something as simple as garlic powder. For a school that talks so much about their diversity I’ve never felt so out of place when it comes to just wanting to enjoy a meal. They need more variety, have cooks come in like they used to, and feature restaurants from town. Downstairs should be open, we shouldn’t have to rely on packaged meals once it gets late, and for gods sake change the bread so it doesn’t fall apart when you look at it. Paying over $2000 a semester without the option to decline because you live on campus is ridiculous, I rely more on giant than I do south.
Decent at times, they need to make sure they got yogurt though. The buns for their sandwiches also fall apart like sand, which is sad.
The food is terrible, there's barely any healthy options and if there are, it tastes bland, uncooked and unseasoned. It's a scam that they force you to pay for two years of a meal plan because it's a waste of money. The dining halls are always packed and they are understaffed, so it can take up to an hour to get your food! It's the same food everyday as well, so it gets boring quick. If they had healthier and tastier options I wouldn't be complaining. Add a burrito bar, a 24/7 breakfast diner section, a better stir fry section, and maybe some southern food/new Orleans section!
I was eating upstairs after a surprisingly good meal and then went down stairs to get a cup of coffee and muffin to bring up stairs to rejoin my friends. But instead I got forced out the dinning hall without reason. I just want cup of coffee and instead I got kicked out. It's like what heck kind of service is this and if I wan rejoin my freinds I go outside walk all the round and then swipe in. I am tired this mess. I shouldn't be surprised though because staff members have always been rude to me and my friends.
I'm just mad right now as I just got my food after a 40-45 minute wait. I mean 40 minutes. I got in before a rush, put in my order and waited. 20 minutes is usually normal amount of wait time for avalanche grill but I asked if my order would be done soon. They said yes. Then a rush came in. 30 minutes in and still no food. Squeeze my way in and ask if my food would be ready soon, they said they'll get it soon. Okay, rush ends about another 10 minutes. Then I see them preparing my food. Comes out about five minutes later. No apology. Just number called and nothing. At least food is warm. keep in mind, it's about 12:30 am as I'm writing this
Very welcoming environment and very good food.
Its good sometimes but generally just okay
Ate there at 11:30 am Saturday while attending a sporting event. What is wrong with some of these spoiled kids? adults? I was an adult guest and was impressed with the price, the variety and the cleanliness. These complainers would rather have expensive, fattening fast food at a dirty, dim, kitchen more than than a beautiful salad bar? The baked chicken was very good, the fresh baked bread and the fruit were also good. At 8 bucks? Are you kidding? McDs would cost you more. How can some of these folks kids say there are no healthy options? Baked chicken, salad, fruit? Not healthy? Low fat dressing? I dont get todays youth. We had absolutely NOTHING like this when I went to college. You should all be grateful.
