Kwang Lee Tae Kwon Do School
What is taekwondo?
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that incorporates aspects of self-defence using all parts of the human body. It is also an Olympic sport, having attained official status at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. The word "taekwondo" can be broken down into three parts:
"Tae" meaning to break with the foot
"Kwon" meaning to break with the fist
"Do" meaning martial art or way of life
Therefore, taekwondo can be understood as the way of the foot and the fist. Through taekwondo, one can learn more than simply the ability to defend oneself. Building confidence through concentration and mental relaxation, students can become physically fit as well as reach new heights while training body, mind, and spirit. They are encouraged to embody the core principles on which taekwondo was originally founded, which include courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. Students will also learn to develop strong personal character and positive attitudes through discipline and respect toward others.

The outer circle in white symbolizes the universe, while the large and small red circles in the otugi represent the earth and life on earth, respectively.
