About
La Posada Hotel was built in 1930 by the Santa Fe Railroad for the Fred Harvey Company. It was the last of the great American railroad hotels, and was the masterpiece of architect Mary Jane Elizabeth Colter.
This hotel is beautiful. The rooms are clean and the staff is extremely friendly. They have complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in the mornings. I was able to hear trains throughout the night, but it wasn't too loud and they also provide ear plugs if needed. Overall, highly recommend if you can afford it. The rooms are a little pricey, but well worth it. The food at the restaurant was good, but the service was a little slow. We had to wait over an hour for our food to arrive to the table and almost an hour for the bread.
We stopped for a late lunch on Father’s Day. It didn’t disappoint. The Turquoise Room Restaurant at La Posada is the best in Northern Arizona. I highly recommend you stop and have a bite. The hotel is amazing and takes you into time past. When you visit, be sure to go to the back of the hotel and watch trains pass by while you sit in a beautiful place. What a soothing peaceful place.
The hotel had beautiful scenery and you could watch the trains go by it was so nice and peaceful. It was very quiet in the rooms and the hotel itself has so much history to it. The only thing I wish it had were microwaves and refrigerators. You can ask at the front desk to use their microwave tho. The staff was extremely helpful and kind. The Turquoise Room had AMAZING food. I very much enjoyed the grilled chicken with tomatillo sauce. The sides of beans and corn tamales as well as some veggies were cooked to perfection and extremely tasty.
What a great hotel! We found it by luck and I’m glad I discovered it. Being a huge old movie buff it was exciting to stay in the John Huston room next to the James Cagney room! This hotel is a must see. Lovely decor and ambiance and the dinner at the Turquoise Room was fantastic. Great rates too. I’ve stayed in hotels that weren’t half as nice for twice the price. I want to return by train the way the old movie stars did in the 30’s and 40’s. There’s still a train stop behind the hotel with Route 66 in front!
We didn't stay at the hotel, we ate at the Turquoise Room located inside the hotel. We took pictures outside, to remember just how special it is. What a luxurious Southwest atmosphere. The hotel and grounds are just gorgeous. Their landscaping and water features are top notch. The food and service at the Turquoise Room was excellent. The food is elevated Southwest style. We almost all ordered the Carnitas platter. There are healthy and vegan options, too.
Wonderful vintage hotel, beautifully restored and modernized. Very clean and very friendly service. Perfect location a couple of blocks from "The Corner." Make sure to have a meal in the Turquoise Room and check the crafts in the gift shop--a whole level above most souvenir shops. Note: this hotel was built to serve rail passengers, it's therefore right next to a rail line, and trains do periodically go by. But the walls are thick and they didn't bother us.
While staying at the local state park, we had a recommendation to go to the Turquoise room for lunch, and we are so glad we went! Lunch was amazing! My husband had the Pork Carnitas and I had the house soup. Best Black Bean soup and cornbread I've ever had. All of the staff were friendly, and the setting was beautiful and quirky with artwork and exquisite furniture throughout the hotel which they allow guests to explore even if you didn't stay at the hotel. The art gallery was very interesting. If you are in the area, definitely stop by.
Beautiful and charming Southwest Mission style hotelier. Great place to stay versus big chain, vanilla rests. Be sure to wander the hotel and property. There is so much to take in. Don’t miss eating at The Turquoise Room either. The hotel and restaurant are a memorable experience. It’s not any stuffy, high brow society venue but very down to earth kind of place which I love. Quiet. Understated. Many, many movie stars came here as an escape. Wander one hall in particular for the jackpot on the celebrities who came here. Enjoy!
Beautiful, classic Fred Harvey resort. Fun artwork to explore and mostly friendly service. I'm 63 and have been stopping here since a child on family road trips. Sadly, the beautiful, classic, small horseshoe bar has been removed and replaced with a too modern looking bar. The bar still only seats 6 guests and because of the style, there is no longer room for the 3-4 tables they had in the bar area. I could almost understand updating if it was an improvement, This was not and a beautiful piece of nostalgia is now gone from a beautifully nostalgic hotel. Sad.
Beautiful, clean hotel. The grounds could use some cleaning and care. The staff is very attentive and caring. The artwork at the hotel is odd, to say the very least. It doesn't fit the beautiful culture and area. It would have been nice to see more local artists and/or Native American art from nearby tribes. Nearby activities: There's not much to see in the town, but the Old Trails Museum is a must, if you are, at all, interested in history. Food & drinks: The restaurant, at the hotel, had delicious food, with a nice twist on traditional dishes. Noteworthy details: There is a hay bale maze on the property.
