We camped at Kyen Campground the weekend of June 9. This was the worst camping experience we have had. Upon our arrival, there was trash near the bathrooms and in the campsites. There are no garbage cans anywhere, just dumpsters at the entrance. We literally saw people pack up and drive off without taking their garbage. Although we did see people maintaining the bathrooms, they were often plugged and unusable. This resulted in someone pooping in the shower. Disgusting! There is no ranger on site, which allowed people to illegally camp, leave trash, and be noisy ALL night. We asked the ranger we did see about the garbage, he picked up some, and asked us if the sheriff had been out the night before. This alarmed us. He said the campground has been going downhill for at least 5 years. He also told is that once the homeless shelters are full, they give them vouchers to stay at the campground. This should have been communicated to us. Later that night a group came in at 9 pm, set up camp and proceeded to drink like fish and make their campfire explode numerous times. I asked them twice to please tone it down, as we had 3 children in our group. They proceeded to make fun of us. The only help was to call the Mendocino County Sheriff, which we did. They came quickly and told them if they got called again, they would arrest everyone in their group. They quieted down some, but not quite enough. They were still loud and one guy was on the phone trying to patch things up with his girlfriend for all to hear. Later, another group had two women fighting which was scaring the children in their group. We got no sleep that night and when dawn broke, we took down camp and jetted, taking our trash with us. The lake was so full and the shore was littered with debris, which make swimming almost impossible. The people who come here are the problem and the lack of any ranger on site is to blame. We will never return.
It's a great campground as long as the two ladies that haven't the slightest idea of what you are supposed to do in a public job working with people. The level of rudeness is unbelievable. They without a doubt should be banned and never allowed to come back and that without a doubt would make your stats you there even better. Not to mention they have hot showers no tokens needed and flushing toilets too.
Campground is great for being in California. Not a lot of privacy but there's no trees anywhere so it's to be expected. Washrooms are clean enough. They have hot showers included which is a bonus. The lake is super mucky so bring a floaty toy if you plan on swimming.
We arrived during the day and there was no person at the registration booth and furthermore, there was never anyone there at the registration booth during our 2 days stay. The dumpsters were piled with trash along with trash all over the campground and no trashcans anywhere that we could see. It was quite uncomfortable to camp there since there didn't seem to be anyone supervising. No camp hosts that we could see. The campsites weren't very well maintained. We spent time picking up trash around our campsite and up and down the road from where we camped and walked. We swept the concrete pad clean where the picnic table was so we could have an area without dirt. I've never camped at such a poorly maintained campground. A park ranger came by in her truck and seemed to be oblivious to the overflowing dumpsters at the entrance and trash littered throughout the park. I've camped at a lot of campsites but never one quite so dirty and poorly maintained. The icing on the cake were the derelicts that showed up to take showers and use the campsites during the day leaving trash behind.
Great lake. Campground was big but very unkeep. Bathrooms were dirty and no paper. Alot of people just hanging around that I don't believe we're paying camping customers. I noticed several times people digging in the dumpsters. Kind of unnerving when your sleeping knowing people were wondering about at night. Our camping experience was overall good. The lake was very full, that was nice to see. I'd go back.
Keep driving to find something else! People across from us waited till dark and set up in their one space: 5 tents, with atleast 7 loud barking dogs, handfuls of kids, atleast 14 adults. They were cussing and playing their music high and drunk even at 2 am then we were woke by all their barking dogs at 6:30am. Total trashy, cockroaches. Poorly managed, there is no one around to control the problems. There are only the non electric sites opened up as of yet this year, of the 4 very nasty showers only 1 has lights that work and that shower the door cannot close shut. The swimming area leaves much to be desired. Pretty much the only nice thing was their fire pit has a nice grate I can cook on. Horrible and trashy.
Bathrooms are terrible and the showers are disgusting. Not a single site is even relatively flat. The whole loop to enter the campground seems to be designed by a 5 year old with a Tonka toy. The rangers will write you up for any bull they can just because their bored. In short don't waste your time or money.
When we arrived - with reservations - there was no one at the check-in so we proceeded into the campground. The road in is very narrow for a 5th wheel. At no time during registration were we informed that this campground is unfriendly for a 26' 5th wheel. The campsite that we reserved already had someone in it. After we took an available campsite, we decided not to stay. Upon leaving we damaged the side skirting while trying to make a turn to get out. Needless to say, we won't be back. Having said that, if you aren't camping with a big RV, this campground has some nice shady spots that aren't far from the lake.
Weird campground, we booked 2 nights, left after one. A lot of mosquitos, all the time, not just at dusk. Our site was on a hill, so very small patches of flat tenting ground, our large tent was awkwardly placed and didn't really work. The lake didn't have a beach, it had cement patches for loading jetskis, small boats, etc. Wasnt what I had hoped. The campground had two dumpster located at the front, so trash was scattered throughout park. Our site has 6-8 pieces of toliet paper scattered around the back of the site like it had previously been the bathroom area for previous campers. It was an unpleasant stay. Only positive was the picnic tables had a permanent latern hook built near it. That was cool.
We have always loved our family reunions at this campground, but this year something is very fishy!!!! They just canceled our reservations we had since the begining of the year with some made up flooding story and then within mins rented the same sites to someone else. I have heard stories about them doing this to get there friends in. We have video taped and taken pictures of the sites and not even a puddle near them. Now it has happened to us. We have family that are out of money for airline tickets and vacation days. We fly in from NewYork, Tennessee and Ohio. They need to make this right!!!!
