Landmark's Aquarius Theatre

About

The Official Facebook Page of Landmark Theatres' Aquarius Theatre.

Description

2 Screens. Built in 1969. Operated by Landmark since 1985. The Aquarius Theatre features the finest in independent and foreign language cinema. It is unique in both design and style, sporting two separate houses united under the Atlantean/underwater inspired wall murals and décor. Cinematographer Haskell Wexler and Francis Ford Coppola's feature film debuts were among the first films shown at the theatre. Located around the corner from Stanford University in the heart of Downtown Palo Alto, the Aquarius has the benefit of being situated in and around some of the best dining, shopping and recreation areas in Palo Alto.

The Aquarius is one of the few theatres in the San Francisco Bay Area to regularly offer up midnight movies. Annually, the Midnight Madness series runs from mid-summer to mid-fall. This series features the best in classic, cult and soon-to-be-cult films with fun, games, and prize giveaways in both theatres on both Fridays and Saturday nights.

Parking is available in public lots opposite the theatre on Emerson Street or on surrounding neighborhood streets.

Fun people, Comfortable seats. Big enough screen. Good quality of sound. Delicious ice cream. What else do you need?
Roderigo the assistant manager is such a nice person , made the whole experience so rewarding , need to promote him has a great understanding of the movies knowledgeable . My wife and I shall recommend all our friends in the future to check this cinema out.
Terrific. Attentive staff. Very comfortable seating. Sound . A Palo Alto treasure because it's within 1 - 3 walking blocks of several restaurants, pizza spots, ice cream parlors, bars, etc. Free parking lot adjacent. One small fault, ice cream bars need to be stored better. Mine was refrozen.
One of my favorite indie/art cinemas! Just two screens, but the rooms are nicely small so you can seat close to the picture and the image / sound in them is great. Typically great selection of the latest less-mainstream releases, and even National Theatre Live events. Oh, and they have wine and beer. Go here if you dig these sorts of places!
Comfy and intimate theater; #1 screen has electric recliner seats, so watch out or you'll fall asleep they forgot to mention no snoring in the theatre :- zzz. Great treat bar, popcorn and sodas + homemade cookies and other local treats. Personal treatment on entry, into the theater and before the movie starts. Movies are "Indy", so you get the pleasure of low venue movies in an excellent theater.
Old fuddy duddy building with old chairs, damp restrooms and small screens. It should be the last choice.
I like small, cozy theaters where art movies/non commercial films are shown. Place is clean, reclining seats.
Terrific intimate comfortable cinema experience. In downtown Palo Alto, lots of nearby parking. Lots of restaurants and stores within yards of the front door. Feels like a village not a sterile mall.
Small but strong theater in the downtown area of Palo Alto. We stumbled upon it and were we suprised by the comfortable seats.
I love this theater. They show the kind of movies that I like and it's a short walk to University Avenue in Palo Alto. The staff is very friendly and the seats are comfortable. But I think what I really like is that it reminds me of the theaters that I went to when I was young. This theater provides a very different experience compared to seeing a movie in a chrome and glass structure in a shopping mall.
