We are a USAW registered and competitive weightlifting club coached by Carlos Wendler and located in Las Cruces, NM.
Las Cruces Weightlifting is the only USAW registered and competitive weightlifting club in Las Cruces, NM and Southern New Mexico. We are coached by Carlos Wendler (USA Weightlifting Sports Performance and Club Coach), a 17-year veteran of the sport and multiple Senior and Masters New Mexico state record holder in the Snatch, Clean and Jerk, and Total. Carlos became involved in Olympic Style Weightlifting in 1999 while attending New Mexico State University (B.S. Chemical Engineering, Minor: Biochemistry) and began competing in 2000 for Briggs' Barbell Club under the coaching of Doug Briggs, PhD, CSCS. He later trained under John Callis in Yorktown, VA as a member of Lower Peninsula Weightlifting Club. He received his USAW club coach certification in 2001 and Sports Performance Coach certification in 2016, has officiated/announced/volunteered at numerous weightlifting meets over the years, and has served as an officer on the board of the New Mexico Weightlifting Committee. In addition to coaching, Carlos also currently competes as a Masters age group lifter.
Las Cruces Weightlifting was started for athletes who are interested in competing in weightlifting, crossfitters who want more knowledgeable and experienced weightlifting coaching to improve their results in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk, and fitness enthusiasts who are interested in learning the olympic lifts.
We teach correct techniques in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk and use these movements, along with their variations and other supplemental exercises, to build a comprehensive strength and performance program for our trainees.
Our gym and coaching hours are open by appointment.
