Laura graduated from Saltfleet High School in Stoney Creek in 1988 as an Ontario Scholar. She then attended McMaster University where she obtained her Honours B.A. in Political Science in 1992.
Thereafter, Laura attended Osgoode Hall Law School, graduating in 1995. In her final term, she was amongst the first group of students to undertake the law school’s first Aboriginal Law Intensive Program. As part of that program Laura was able to work with some of the top aboriginal lawyers in the Province.
Following law school Laura articled at Agro, Zaffiro, Parente, Orzel & Baker in Hamilton, Ontario. Upon her call to the Bar in 1997 Laura joined the boutique firm of Harper, Jaskot practicing exclusively in the area of Family Law.
Laura has continued to practice Family Law exclusively since that time and began her own practice in Oakville in the year 2000. Laura has been an instructor with the Law Society of Upper Canada, Bar Admission Course and a member of the Item Writing Team, Bar Admission Examinations on numerous occasions. She has also been a guest speaker and lecturer on issues relating to Family Law in various other forums. Laura has been the co-chaired the annual Halton County Law Association Family Law Seminar for many years.
Laura is a Past-President of the Halton County Law Association, having served in all seats on the executive over 14 years. She is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the Ontario Bar Association and the Advocates Society where she volunteers as Pro Bono duty counsel before the Law Society of Upper Canada. Laura was recently appointed to the Halton executive of the Ontario Justice Education Network which provides students and others with a better understanding of our justice system well as the Family Law Executive of the Ontario Bar Association. Laura is on the Board of JRA Autobus, a not-for profit cycling group in Oakville and sits as Chair of Green Propeller Recycling Limited.
