I have decades of experience with federal class actions and appeals.
For more than two decades my practice has focused on civil appeals in federal court. I have briefed and argued appeals before all but three of the thirteen federal appellate circuit courts, and have participated in briefing several cases on the merits before the United States Supreme Court.
I also have filed numerous amicus curiae briefs, often on behalf of institutional investors supporting honest securities markets, on behalf of law professors urging sensible interpretation of laws protecting the public interest, and on behalf of religious organizations and faith leaders supporting religious liberty and equal rights for all.
My pro bono work seeking to advance religious liberty and civil rights has been recognized with awards from the Unitarian Universalist Association, St. Paul's Foundation for International Reconciliation, the American Constitution Society's San Diego Lawyer Chapter, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, and San Diego's Democrats for Equality.
