Stephen E. Eberhardt
Mr. Eberhardt was licensed to practice law in Illinois in 1982. He began his legal career in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in the Criminal Appeals Division, with later assignments in the Municipal Division, Felony Review Unit, Repeat Offender Unit in the Juvenile Division, and Felony Trial Division. He has tried over sixty-five (65) jury trials to verdict and argued numerous cases before the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He served on State’s Attorney Cecil Partee’s Task Force on the Foregoing of Life Sustaining Treatment and updated and re-drafted the Uniform Criminal Complaint Book for County law enforcement agencies. From 1988 to 1992 he was cross designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney.
Since 1992, Mr. Eberhardt has engaged in the general practice of law concentrating his practice in criminal, family law and litigation matters. He is licensed to practice before the United State Supreme Court, the Fifth, Seventh and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals, all of the Federal District Courts in Illinois, the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and has represented clients in the Federal District Courts in Arizona, Michigan and Mississippi. He is a member of the Illinois Capital Litigation Trial Bar.
Prior to being admitted to the Illinois bar, Mr. Eberhardt gained extensive law enforcement experience through his work as a part-time police officer, police 911 system operator, patrol officer and detective. While with the Hazel Crest Police Department he attended the Illinois State Police Academy and was President and Valedictorian of his basic training class. While working for the Village of Tinley Park Police Department, he served as a Patrol Officer and Investigator. His duties included working as a major traffic accident reconstructionist, training officer, and overweight truck enforcement officer. Additionally, while an attorney, he served as the Detective Division Commander on a part-time basis for the Village of Crestwood for a number of years.
Mr. Eberhardt has received extensive continuing law enforcement as well as legal training over the course of his professional careers from a variety of county, state and federal agencies and task force operations as well as teaching at numerous law enforcement and legal seminars.
