Big props to the woman who began my check-in process the other day when I went in for a scheduled ultrasound. I've been vomiting several times a week for the last 6 weeks, and my doctor suspects an ulcer or gall stones. I'm very nervous and I would like to get to the bottom of this. But as soon as I sat down to register for my appt on Monday morning, the person behind the desk immediately informed me that I would owe $400 for the test. I have been so stressed and had so little sleep that that just pushed me over the edge. I immediately began sobbing and told her I can't afford that so I should probably just leave. She just stared at me blankly and said, "Okay". She let me leave the office, walk through the lobby, and cross the parking lot to my car, heaving with sobs the entire way. I got halfway out of the parking lot before I had to pull over and open my car door to throw up on the asphalt. Fantastic compassionate place, Lawrence Memorial. Thanks bunches.
A teaching clinic that's good for non-emergencies. PA Colleen and Klause were attentive, knowledgeable and their bedside manner was perfect! They didn't have the answers for my non-emergency medical mystery, but they were incredibly professional! They were diligent in planning next steps and getting me in contact with specialists that were inclusive<3 and ensured I had everything I needed to find answers and get better. The facility looked clean and was missing the overwhelming disinfectant smell most hospitals have. Be warned, masks and personal hygiene seem to be a difficult concept for a few of the staff. On the way out the sloppy, male nurse out of scrubs gave me print outs stained with some mystery substance. So, 3 stars for excellent doctors and -2 stars for poor sanitation.
A family member was under their care. She had to be removed by EMT because she was unresponsive and they refused to see this as an emergency. The doctor on staff couldn’t stop smirking while she remained unconscious in bed. Absolutely infuriating and unprofessional. All hospitals have some bad reviews but please never trust them with your care.
I went to urgent care @ Lawrence memorial Hospital on March 25th. They took x-rays + COVID test & said it was negative. I went there because I was sick + they sent me home. The 29 th I went to Melrose Wakefield ER + they said I had RSV. IM 69 with COPD. I was in the hospital till April 6 th + it was very painful. I had this since March 17 th. That's what happens when Drs don't listen to the patient.
First, they “lost” my appointment for an ultrasound they had scheduled me for without asking if it worked for me. Then rescheduled for the day before. After rearranging my schedule once again to accommodate we got to the hospital a half hour before the appointment to register with them. We waited over an hour to be registered making us late for the ultrasound. Not to mention everyone we had come in contact with in the hospital was extremely rude, unprofessional and didn’t wear their masks correctly but enforced everyone else with such force it was uncomfortable, except for the woman who actually registered us. She was great but was clearly not trained on the system and needed help on more than one occasion. We proceeded to wait another hour to be in seen in radiology and they seemed to not be able to find the appointment and let us sit there without informing us. However, Lisa our tech, was absolutely phenomenal and super thorough. I’d come back solely for her
Please never send someone you love to the geriatric psych unit. It's like something out of a horror movie. My mom had a three week visit there and I still feel guilty about it. The doctor didn't seem to have a plan for her other than having his staff giver her new meds every few days and asking them how they were working. If it weren't for our daily contact and visits to ensure she was being cared for, which she wasn't, I'm sure she would still be there. After almost three weeks, we asked her doctor what his plan was for her and literally in the same five minutes he told us she needed to stay another week and then that she would likely be ready to leave in 2 days. WHAT??? We opted for the two days and got her the hell out of there. On one visit, I heard the staff mimicking a patient who was yelling out by yelling out back to him. On another visit my mom was sitting in clearly soiled clothes while staff did nothing until I made them aware of the situation. She had dementia and they would give her a pot of hot water to make tea for herself which she didn't know how to do. Her bathroom which she shared with another patient was absolutely disgusting. I despise this place and would have taken her in my own home rather than send her back again.
My MGH affiliated doctor referred me here to do my annual mammogram. I was at first hesitant, because of mixed reviews in general. However it was quick, easy, and the technician was lovely and professional. All told I was there for less than 30 minutes. Nice to have an alternative to going into Boston without the hassle of transportation and parking and one that works with my MGH/Brigham Doctor.
Misleading information. I used to live in Medford and have been to Lawrence Memorial Hospital ER. While I was visiting with family in Medford I felt the need to go to the ER. I googled, Lawrence Memorial Hospital, it came up as open. I called and the woman told me that yes they are open. My ride drove me to the address on Governors Ave, but we couldn't see the sign for the ER, I called and my ride called as well at the same time both people told us to go up the hill. We were there, but only saw the urgent care building. I stayed in the car and my ride went in to ask for the ER, he came back and told me that they said yes this is the ER you can come in. I doubt that the employees don't know the difference between Urgent Care and Emergency Care. It seems like a strategic move to force people to go in. I am an RN myself, I told them what diagnostic testing I wanted done, they lied to me until I went in the back. If they charge my insurance, I am going to appeal it and take it all the way. This is unacceptable! All they did was a blood pressure. Btw, someone needs to teach that male nurse how to button his shirt. How does he feel going to work looking like that?
Lawrence Memorial Hospital is pretty much only good for their Urgent Care center, its extremely convenient, and the quality of care, treatment, wait time, and employee performance can vary from good to great, otherwise Lawrence Memorial Hospital functioning as an actual hospital is absolutely horrible, make sure you never get admitted here, they are understaffed, and the staff that they do have is awful, personality wise, and with the quality of care that they provide. Examples, nurses disregard your physician's request to stop medication blood thinners and when they gave you the medication by injection they had little care for your comfort and well being, they had over and over left giant bruises. As for physicians at this hospital, they're awful too, little care for your medication sensitivities, unwilling to listen to you're concerns and needs Also, an example of their incompetence, they completely disregarded the exam results, findings, diagnoses, and treatment ordered, by a Specialist, whom comes in from other hospitals, or offices. A Cardiologist came in and did a through examination and came to a certain diagnosis, that everything was fine, that no heart attack occurred, and no other problems, the physician at Lawrence Memorial ignored the diagnosis, and continued ordering tests and providing treatment for a heart condition, and wanted to medically induce a heart attack, wouldn't discharge for 3 days after everything was cleared with the SPECIALIST, and was told was medically, physically okay, and safe to be discharged. It honestly seemed as though the physician was just looking for extra things/ways to add and bill to the insurance. Absolutely HORRIBLE as an admitted patient hospital, but the Urgent Care center is extremely convenient and great to go to.
The Hospital was clean and the nurses and doctors were nice but the receptionists would rather finish their conversations before admitting a patient to the ER. Their protocols are a bit clumsy as well seeing as they tried to send me home without taking any updated address or insurance information. Overall not bad, I was just annoyed by those receptionists.
