The Academy of Arts and Humanities provides a wide variety of opportunities for students to reach their full potential through creativity and critical thinking – from commercial art and television production to law studies to theatrical and musical performance. Students take core courses rooted in academic excellence to prepare them for college and, at the same time, for enrichment explore the many exciting electives and experiences in the arts and humanities. The “extras” in our academy are unmatched. Our Promising Teachers of Tomorrow program offers education classes, field experiences, and college credit. Our award-winning music program brings renown talent and instruction via fun and purposeful venues including recently the likes of The Mark Wood Experience and rock-violinist, Bobby Yang. And our school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition has brought out the very best in our student body, demonstrating their phenomenal communications skills, confidence, and creativity. These are just a few of the ways the Academy of Arts and Humanities opens the door for students to push their creative limits and to imagine the possibilities.The Academy of Arts and Humanities will host artists-in-residence in creative writing, dance, music, and fine arts to allow students the opportunity for exploration of the impact of artists, writers, and musicians of the 1920s, including those of the Harlem Renaissance, on American culture and values. These experiences will blend with our curriculum and will culminate in a celebratory event showcasing our student’s hard work as well as our Poetry Out Loud competition.
