These guys have been around the neighborhood for some time. I usually get coffee with sandwiches or pastry from them, certain mornings. This morning was a turkey/cheese melted croissant, and a small latte. You can't beat the prices, and the food is clearly made with loving attention in a full commissary of the establishment, serving both the counter shop & the dining room. This place is one of the reasons we should celebrate cultural exchange, because it drives the cuisine, such the amazing coffee. Often, you get some vibes often served alongside the food + bev.
Ordered a Yassa and my friend a Maffe the plate was generous but I've never tasted a Yassa so spicy in my life and yet nowhere in the menu it says that it has hot spices. When I asked the waiter to change the food his answer to me was we africans eat spices and you have never tasted African food before. An unnecessary comment. Anyway he agreed finally to bring me a Shawarma that was also spicy as well, but still eatable. The funny part is that he wanted to charge the untouched Yassa. Until my friend explained to him that since if does not say that it is spicy in the menu that he was responsible. Anyway I did not want to give a zero since he changed the meal but wanting to charge the Yassa was not very professional and not very representative of the Senegalese hospitality. P.S the wifi address and password is not displayed in the restaurant you need to ask then the waiter enter it on your phone.
Super inconsistent. I kept giving chances to this place but now that the dish I always get dibi is almost $30. It’s completely unacceptable to get burned lamb meat and hard as a rock uncooked rice.
Food was really good, portions large.
TAKES FOR EVER TO SERVE, EXTREMELY RUDE, DOESNT RESPECT HERSELF, SERVES OTHERS BEFORE COMPLETING AN ORDER, TALKS TO ME LIKE I’M HER FRIEND, DOESNT KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG, ISNT DRESSED LIKE A WAITRESS AND OVER ALL JUST HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOOD IS DELICIOUS THOUGH.
Amazing place with a good vibe. The food is always on point and the atmosphere is always vibrant. The senegalese food is to die for. The breakfast is also pretty amazing with the croissants and the other pastries. The coffee was on spot and boy did we enjoy it. I highly recommend that they bring some Cafe Touba that would add a lot of value to the business.
If you are in Harlem and you are looking for some tasty Senegalese food Yassa, Thiep, etc or fresh drinks Bissap and so forth and why not some good burgers, you must stop by! Ps. Of course, feel free to order in French!
Update: I like that they renovated the place. It is brighter and more spacious, but during the winter months, it gets very cold inside as people open the door to come in. I had to keep my coat on. Foodwise, the grilled dibi lamb has remained the best dish on the menu. I do not like that the servers are not consistent with serving the bread and mayonnaise. Service is minimal and quite slow. Review from 3 years ago 4 star rating: this is one of my favorite West African Senegalese restaurants in NYC. I love anything "grilled" on the menu. On my last visit, the nems were tasty and the shell perfectly crisp. The pastries are sinfully delicious. However, the shawarma was not good. The pita was too soft. Also, the burger beef patty was dry and tasteless. Just stick with the grilled dishes on the menu. I like the restaurant's ambiance. The owner and servers are very welcoming.
Waitress is rude. Not sure how they only have one for entire restaurant. I’ve gone a few times and they never have what’s on the menu available. Today there was someone fake eyelash in my cassava. The waitress asked me how did it get there. ???? What???? I would never have on cheap tacky lashes. Last time coming here. Back to la savagne I go!! Wheelchair accessibility: Outdoor and indoor dining is one level easily accessible for wheelchairs
Des Ambassades serves a combination of regular American and authentic Senegalese cuisine. The portions are large, able to satisfy big appetites. In the 2 times I was there they didn't take credit cards so prepare to use a debit card or pay using cash.
