The North Dakota Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan connect visitors with the Crossroads of the Northern Plains.
The mission of the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is to provide and enhance outdoor recreation opportunities through diverse parks and programs that conserve the state's natural diversity.
The North Dakota Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan support this mission by helping forge human connections to North Dakota’s natural diversity. Whether Lewis and Clark, the Mandan and Hidatsa nations, European explorers and artists, or the American Fur Company, each experienced a crossroads with the natural world of the Northern Plains. Their stories help modern people from North Dakota and around the world understand, appreciate, and conserve North Dakota’s natural diversity.
The North Dakota Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center uses trained interpreters, immersive replicas, world-class exhibits, art and artifact collections, trails, gardens, art, play areas, games, events, and many other techniques and resources to fulfill this mission.
