Liberty Hospital ER

About

Liberty Hospital’s Level 2 Trauma Center is equipped to handle a broad range of emergencies, 24/7.

Description

Patient rooms
Our department consists of 28 patient rooms equipped with the latest technology. Twenty-one of those rooms are monitored, which means they contain the instruments needed to observe a patient’s heart rate and vital signs at all times. For patient convenience, each room has a private lavatory.

Arrival by ambulance
For patient comfort, our ambulance bays are enclosed and climate controlled.

Arrival by helicopter
Our helipad is within steps of the ED, allowing us to receive critically injured patients quickly.

Self-contained trauma radiology
Rather than sharing with other units, our ED houses its own x-ray equipment to speed injury diagnoses. Doctors can view x-ray results from computers right in the ED nurses’ stations.

The care and quality of this hospital has gone down over the years period I've noticed it over the last 2 visits to the ER and really should have followed my gut and went To another emergency room department. I wanted to give liberty another try because I live here and have been a long time resident. My mistake and it will not happen again. 2 days ago While playing a sporting event I lunged, heard a pop behind my knee and went to the ground. I explained this at the hospital and they Took x rays, Came back and said there's "probably" a tear and there's too much fluid To say if there's any more damage or not. I asked about having an MRI and you would have thought I asked for gold bars. I was told that would be "at least" 6 week out for availability. Meanwhile I was offered an ace bandage and tylenol and sent on my way. I have a full-time job that I need to get to. And was told that I should feel better in 10 days. And if not, go see my regular doctor or call orthopedics. Are you kidding me that's what you have to say no assistance whatsoever
All of the hospital staff was very caring, and I was in and out very quickly. I didn’t get put through un necessary testing. The whole process was great considering it was an ER visit. Only concern is the cleanliness. There’s visible dirt on the floors, blood in the sink and over flowing trash. Not looking for The Ritz, just clean spaces.
Been sitting in waiting room for over 3 hours. No one moving like anything is an emergency. I called patient advocate, no answer, called administration she said someone is coming to get you, someone came and offered ice chips. I said I’m very sick and been here 3 hours, I need a doctor, all she said is others have waited longer
If I call the EMERGENCY room because somone is having an EMERGENCY to ask what the wait times look like, I expect an answer not attitude. If you hate your job get a different one. I will not use this hospital and will always use north KC from now on.
Place is a joke. It was slow as possible and dead still took 4hrs to get done, the RN that did my IV messed up so she ran 2 ivs and ruined my shirt blood was everywhere, its very dirty, they didn't schedule my procedures that they told me to follow up for and wrote me a prescription for medicine im allergic to then told me I had to come get the new script they couldn't call it into the pharmacy.
My partner was having a mild allergic reaction to 20+ unknown bug bites. Took him in 8/10 at 1am when it was worsening after taking medication and experiencing bad symptoms. Worried that it could not wait until the next day to get checked out at urgent care/doctor, we were simply wondering if it did require emergency treatment. When we arrived, we walked up to registration and were not greeted by the nurse, who was “busy” having what seemed like a very casual conversation laughing, relaxed tone with a coworker. We had not been to this ER before but we figured this was the place to go. We both said hello and did not get a response, but were glanced at and shrugged off: no “I’ll be with you in a moment” or even a “hello”. After about two minutes she asked how she could help us and finally got our information. As someone who works in a hospital, I was deeply upset at this lack of professionalism coming from a registration nurse in the emergency department. Patients should be the number one priority, not personal conversation. Emergencies do not always require physical distress for them to be considered an emergency, and I hope this nurse will do better in the future as 2 minutes can be a lot of time in true emergency situations. She took him in to triage, got vitals, asked a few questions, looked at a single bite, and said “the people that just went in had to wait for four hours, so you will probably have to too”. We just wanted to know if we could wait until tomorrow or if we did in fact need emergent care and the emergency room was the only place to get help at this time. I understand that wait times can be long in the ED, but I was still upset with how unprofessionally the registration nurse handled our situation. I called another hospital and was put on the line with a RN and she did answer our question stating that due to his symptoms, he should be seen by a physician in the next 3-4 hours. We ended up going to the other hospital because we appreciated their care on the phone. I never leave google reviews but I could not let the way we were so casually treated at an ED by the person who is supposed to compliantly help us slide as the situation could be much worse for someone else. Our small situation explained what we needed to know about how this hospital is ran. I understand it’s late, the hospital is more than likely understaffed, and there is a vast variety of what comes into an ED, but this was a very disappointing experience from people whose job is to care for others.
Rivals my experience on jury duty as one of the worst experiences of my life. Nearly a 10 hour process between arrival and discharge. Waiting area is lacking, nurse dispositions lacking, communication lacking. Maybe if there was even a remote ballpark of expected time based on triage ranking we might have risked it and visited a primary care physician in the morning but as each hour goes by it becomes harder to leave expecting that any minute now we will be called back. Hard to imagine there arent efficiencies to be found if anyone cared to investigate. If you live up north you are likely better off going to Excelsior Springs ER or NKC.
I had a wound that was potentially bad. My wife drove me to the Liberty ER. There was no line and the staff nurse at the desk window pulled me right inside and sat me down, took a look and said he’d seen worse. I was eased immediately. The medic, Tom, and doctor were all nice and good at their jobs. I was expecting it to be a much more terrible experience. Thank you Liberty ER!
I am 8 weeks pregnant and had to visit the ER twice in one day. I waited 4+ hours to be seen which wasn't an issue. I was wheelchair bound and unable to go any distance with my wheelchair. I called twice to kindly ask about the wait. I was treated very rudely by a male nurse. His response was, "There are people sicker than you" His voice lacked the compassion of a healthcare provider. I said "a little transparency would go a long way." I was then told about how "No one is going to come out and update me" Which I never asked for by the way. I just wondered why this was not kindly explained to me the first time I called after I had patiently waited 3 1/2 hours at the time. He spoke very rudely to me although I was very kind to him. After I called my husband to come pick me up at 10:50p , while interrupting my toddlers sleep, I was the wheeled to a mental patients room no equipment, steel bathroom with a garage door in the very back of the emergency room, after passing several open rooms. Maybe the rooms still needed to be cleaned. Nevertheless, I was not treated with compassion as if I was having heart issues but met with distain as if I was coming off the streets. Based on how this is handled I will determine whether I should have my baby at this hospital. By the way, an Emergency room during this time is a very dangerous place to leave a pregnant woman for 4 hours with the "sicker" people. Signed, kind minority
The entire staff was very excellent from the ER staff to te nice lady who cleaned my room was very pleasant. Even the security was pleasant!!!
