I would recommend Lifeskills to those needing extra support with addiction and mental health. My therapist, Dr. Nicolle, was a great support and is good and qualified at what she does. Rabbi Gaines and Dr. Marie are great too. Being in treatment is hard no matter where you go - I wish I had longer phone calls and the housing situation wasn't ideal communal living and a handful of maintenance issues but overall it was do-able and a good environment for me. I'm looking forward to the continued support of the alumni program - it's a great idea and I haven't heard of that at other treatment centers, and it's nice to know they're going to keep in touch.
I am actually writing this post as a response to the director of the program of Lifeskills. After my nightmarish experience there 2 years ago I was finally able to make a post. Since, I have received a Covid bill for $550.00...even though I am a disabled veteran and everything in my program should have been 100% taken care of by Veteran’s Affairs. Coincidence? I think not. Even 2 years later this program has found a way to bully me. Once I called the laboratory they said that Lifeskills had misrepresent ed me under some insurance company I've never even heard of. So, much for thank you for your service. Lifeskills is an absolute joke they patronize their clients, treat them as lesser than citizens, and demoralize the defects they are already suffering from. It is not a program, but rather an institution where someone who doesn't care is making a lot of money. If you care about your loved one don't be fooled the pictures; things there are nothing as they seem, Sincerely Jacquelyn
One of my favorite singers in the world, so I was pretty excited to see her. She didn’t let me down. This was the best concert I have ever seen. What lacked in acoustics the concert was in a parking lot she made up for with her beautiful vocals. I’ve never left a concert so confused for why the crowd didn’t seem to care at all - maybe they were too far away to hear, but I had a front row seat so I was pretty stoked the entire time. I even got to meet her at the end - she signed my poster and was really friendly to me and my friends. Thanks for a life changing experience.
Dr. Nicole and Dr. Mirella are awesome therapists! I wish I could've had more time with them. Dr. Marie, Sandy, and Rabbi are all knowledgeable and brought much expertise to group therapy. Brian, the art therapist, is most caring and committed to what he does and always encouraging. Buffy is an amazing Yoga instructor as well. I would highly recommend Life Skills to anyone needing caring professionals.
This was my second time at Lifeskills and my mindset was completely different - I came here voluntarily and felt ready this time around. Tara, my therapist, was persistent. She was able to get through to me and we worked really well together, and in my sessions, I learned healthy boundaries and we made great strides working on my family dynamics. Shout out to the tech staff: Tamara, Betina, Gus, and supervisors Jackie, Roger and Bill. They were all really nice, easygoing and accommodating. Dani, the alumni relations coordinator, held groups that helped me understand the resources available to me post treatment. While I wish I was going straight home after Residential, I recognize that working the full continuum of care and taking recovery slow and steady is a recipe for success. I'm looking forward to continuing to build more consistency in my life and taking this time to best prepare myself for the next chapter in my life.
My experience at Lifeskills was very meaningful. The staff was overall friendly but there are specific people I would like to mention. Rabbi Gaines Is very talented and smart and was kind to me during my time here. Kelvin from the tech staff was cool, chill, and helped me through difficult times. Therapist Illisa was wonderful and a very good therapist. Whenever I was in distress she was nice, caring, and supportive. Dr Ockman, head of the clinical team was a cool guy. Whenever I would stop by and see him he treated me with respect and dignity. Thank you Lifeskills for your help and guidance, I look forward to all that lies ahead.
LifeSkills South Florida was a heaven sent option for our son. Dr. Nicolle and Dr. Krista are amazing therapists who are very genuine and caring. They have a large team of great staff, who made our son's stay there safe, especially given his complex medical issues. Their kind and understanding way of collaborating with us parents in the care for our son was wonderful.
My son arrived at Lifeskills South Florida in March, after over a year of unsuccessful attempts to get him professional help for severe substance abuse and resulting psychosis. His life was unraveling in front of us and we were helpless and hopeless. Like most patients at Lifeskills, he is a young adult male whose life was hijacked my heavy use of marijuana. I researched the entire country for the best young adult dual diagnosis program that had a lot of experience with substance induced psychosis. The road led us to LifeSkills. My son is very intelligent, strong willed, and stubborn. a Along with contending with a severe addiction and resulting mental condition made forming a therapeutic alliance incredibly challenging but vital to recovery. Here is where Jamia Wilson, his primary therapist at the PHP level, stepped in. Jamia is professional, compassionate, persistent and patient and goes above and beyond to meet her patients where they are at. She challenged my son to get out stagnation and create some insight. Her positive but direct therapeutic style was collaborative and worked incredibly well for my son. Although his lack of insight into both his substance abuse and mental health challenges presented like a brick wall in the beginning, Jamia's unique combination approach of CBT and Motivational Interviewing, successfully chipped away at his protective exterior and made major headway with him gaining awareness of what led to where was at and what he needed to do to move forward to live a good life. My husband and I felt at the height of his addiction and psychosis, that recovery may not happen. With sobriety and the right clinical team behind him, he is a 180 from when he was admitted. Jamia often times uses humor to soften him. It was like bingo for him opening up. Our son has improved more than what we could have imagined a year ago. I also want to add Jamia was incredible at communicating with us. We had weekly, at times, twice weekly updates and we were kept in the loop. Lifeskills does not offer Case Managers which I feel is needed but Jamia is also as close as possible to one. She went above and beyond and coordinated between the multiple clinical and medical staff members and forms a cohesive team. Without a doubt Jamia was pivotal in saving his mind and his life. I also want to add that we had Tracy Taylor. as our family therapist, was amazing at helping our family reconfigure our communication style, set boundaries for each one of us, and focus on our own self care.
I arrived at Lifeskills coming from another treatment facility in Arizona. From the moment I walked into the facility and from the time I had left I was treated with the utmost respect and dignity. I have to give credit to my primary therapist Dr. Tara Alhadheff, my family therapist Ilissa Whitehead, Tara's intern Amy, the tech staff and the nursing staff. Tara was instrumental in helping me with my mental health issues and continuing work on my substance abuse issues. Illissa Whitehead is an amazing family therapist! She really helped my family understand the mental health issues I was facing as well as bridging the gap between me and my family. I have been to three treatment centers in my short life and I can say hands down that Lifeskills is the best that Florida has to offer. If your loved one suffers from mental health issues and/or addiction, I would highly recommend taking a look at Lifeskills. Between the clinical staff, the programming and the step-down structure, it's a program that can best set up your loved one for success.
My overall experience with Lifeskills was very pleasant. The program is only as good as the work you put into. With that being said my primary therapist, Dr. Despina, and my family therapist, Ms. Ilissa, are very well versed in many different areas of mental health. They were very accommodating to my situation and my mental health issues. All of the therapist's truly care about the betterment of the clients at Lifeskills.
