We stopped at the Lighthoise point park to take in some sun and scenery. It's actually a very beautiful place. The parking fee of $30 is a bit steep....but hell, when in Rome.... If you are staying the day, the fee is not a big deal. Consider that most other state or landmark parks all have some sort of fee. Even though we only stayed for a few hours, the time spent was very pleasant. There are some beautiful views of the Long Island Sound and the lighthouses, though very far away, are really quite remarkable to see. There are loads of places to find shells and sea rocks. As a rock hound, I live fi ding all sorts of fun things on the beach. Walking along the coastline, you can find some very interesting granite outcroppings that are full of quartz veins mixed with pyrite. All things considered, the park is quite lovely.
Very nice park! There's a beach here, a lighthouse, and some nice spots to relax, look around, and take pictures. And there's a carousel inside the building in the park, which is only $.50 to ride. The only complaint is that it's a little pricey to enter $25 for residents per vehicle, $30 for out of state, but I think it was worth the visit. It's a nice park overall and you can make it work the experience. Playground: There is a playground Restrooms: There are some bathrooms Dog-friendliness: Great for dogs Picnic area: Various picnic areas
If your car is not registered in New Hevan you will have to pay 25$ for the enterence despite you are CT resident. I think it is a completely a rip off. Is it worth 25$? Not at all. I wanted to go near the light house so I paid. Otherthan its a small beach and fishing spot. If you spend all day with your family at beach it might be okay. But still without any services inside its not worth.
Truly amazing experience of Lighthouse Point Park. Usually, during the summer, visiting this park is $10 per car, but I visited in late October, and entry was totally free. Sunset from this lighthouse park is amazing. You can easily spend two to three hours walking on the beach, taking pictures, and lighthouse provides good photo opportunities. Please be careful when walking on the Jetty, rocks were slippery. Some boulders were granite, which may have transported from somewhere else. There is another functional lighthouse smaller in size is visible from this park but may not be open to public.
such a good park. i visited in the winter, so the inside was closed but the entry was free, also free parking. not entirely sure how much it is in the winter but i'm sure the experience is worth it. they have a playground for the kids as well which is actually really big. in the winter, the lighthouse is also closed but the views of the beach and the park itself are gorgeous. so glad i got to visit!
I really like that it has both the carousel and lighthouse... these are favorites for my family We go in honor/memory of our mom I go in the off-season, so don't get to ride the carousel but I'm hoping to this year
Not overcrowded. Great place for kids, there is a nice playground. GREAT place to look for natural granite and crystals. Even found some sea glass mermaid glass. Playground: Large playground area for kids. Restrooms: Seemed to be well kept, older, clean. Dog-friendliness: Nice and quiet place to bring a pet. We actually saw someone out with their cat. Picnic area: Large grass areas, benches, little sandy areas.
Nice place to take a little walk Lighthouse itself could be nicer, its covered in graffiti. luckily I went off season so I didn't have to pay the usual $30. I feel like if I had paid to see I would have been upset. Otherwise ok
The beach was pretty filthy not really referring to the sea lettuce and weeds that were washed up on the shore. There was trash along the sand and waters edge. Didn’t feel really family friendly with the dirtiness of it. There were several adults smoking weed on the beach making it difficult to enjoy the atmosphere of being by the water. The namesake of the park/beach, lighthouse, had grafiti all over it. The carousel was under renovation, but I didn’t see that on the website when looking to choose the beach. Honestly, it was a second choice on our visit to go here. It was what showed up close to the bird sanctuary in West Haven, which ended up being a bust because of misinformation and construction. Needless to say we didn’t spend as much time at this beach. Good side was they honored military and waived the fee for entry, that way in the end my family didn’t feel like we wasted our money.
This was definitely a nice park with a beach, a lighthouse, and picnic areas. However, charging $30 for entry for out of towners is a bit steep
