Lincoln Police Department

Let just say the swine that stopped by was punked. My house, you show me respect servant. Especially when you ain’t there for me and never will be. You are the evil in the city not the civilian. Can’t answer a simple question respectfully like I was the inconvenience. LPD is a waste of our tax money. They never help the people who need it just act like everyone is under them.

This department was video recorded arresting a law abiding citizen who was video recording at the downtown Post Office from publically accessible areas, standing either out front or in the lobby. Both of which are constitutionally protected legal activities. These are the actions of TYRANTS. This was done by 5 police officers in front of the Post Office and the arrest was done by the officers supervising Sargent. TYRANTS EARNING THE HATE EVERYDAY! I am pro police as our society requires law enforcement officers but when they over step their authority they should be held accountable. Their accountability should be more strict and completely public. This wont be the last time there will be someone with a camera video recording police from a public space sidewalk and it is not only legal but a constitutionally protected activity.

Thank you for being there for us LPD and responding to any of these protests that turn violent. I hope all our officers in the field stay as safe as they can and good luck to everyone out there risking their lives everyday. Best wishes and huge respect. The few times I've worked with the officers of LPD they were always courteous and professional, but never robotic.

When renewing my plates online this year I was scammed by a bogus website. Charges showed up that I had to dispute-had to cancel card and get a new one- cancel automatic pymts, etc. Forgot about the license tags while sorting that all out. So I was stopped for outdated tags. The officer was so kind and understanding that I wanted to thank him. I wrote a note and sent it to the police department this week. So often public service personnel only hear the negative and I believe it is important to share good experiences.

I was running late to work the other day and my tire blew out while I was on the highway-- being a young person who hasn't been on the roads long enough to have experienced many flat tires, I was anxious and crying. Just a few minutes after, one of the police department's captains-- I wish I remembered his name-- pulled over and made sure I was fine and calmed down while I waited for my ride to pick me up. We ended up having to tow my car off the highway. Before my ride came and picked me up to take me to work, this officer was gracious enough to OFFER to wait with my keys and my car until the tow truck got there, so I wouldn't be late. I cannot thank this officer enough. I was so impressed and grateful that he was there to help me in a time of need. I am so grateful to live in a city where the officers genuinely have the best interest for the citizens they serve. Once again to the officer who helped me-- thank you.

There have been three instances where I've needed the police; all of them were negative experiences. In one instance I was rear-ended in traffic by a drunk driver. The bicycle cop directed me to a side road and then directed the drunk driver to keep "moving along" even though I and 2 other drivers tried to tell him that was the drunk who hit us. He then began to drill me with questions about how much and what I'd been drinking I don't drink. When we asked why the drunk driver got to leave he admitted that he'd assumed *I* was the drunk who'd hit someone. He then spent 20 minutes calling around to other officers to find the actual drunk. Of course by then the driver was long gone and the police couldn't find him even with the license plate #. My insurance co. did though Another instance, someone had broken into my home while I was in the shower. I called 911 only to be yelled at by the operator about not being able to hear me - I was speaking quietly because there was *someone in my house* and from what I could hear they were in the room *directly beneath me* and I was trapped in a bathroom, naked, so *yelling* about needing the police was not really a viable or safe option. Long story short, 3 officers showed up. I was told I couldn't put clothes on until they checked the house. One officer did nothing but stare at my legs. Another spent more time hollering about how dirty she thought my house was and freaking out about a road sign my son had in the backyard than actually checking for an intruder. The third was worried about the decorative knives in my son's room and ceased continuing to check the rest of the house. At no point did these officers actually look for an intruder which there had been, or ask me if anything was missing, damaged, or moved there was, or give me the ok to put some damn clothes on, or ask me any other question other than about my son's knives and "what did you hear?" Which was promptly followed by "it was probably just the pipes" it was not. It was a horribly humiliating and frightening experience with a bunch of unprofessionals who were blatantly not interested in helping me. The 3rd time was at my place of work. The police were called to transport a mentally ill man to the hospital. I had been able to calm this man, who was off his medication and hearing voices that were telling him to harm himself and others, and get him to agree to go with the officers. That is until they showed up and undid everything I'd done to calm him by speaking to him condescendingly, threatening him with handcuffs even though he was being compliant, laughing in his face when he asked for reassurance that they were taking him to the hospital and not jail. At one point I risked my own safety by stepping in front of an officer, who was being just an absolute prick, to get the man to focus on me and remain calm and "make good decisions" rather than reacting to the excrement that cop was saying and doing. Even I wanted to punch that officer and was in my right mind. I've been pulled over more times than I can count because traffia cops thought I was a black man. I am brown and have short hair and often wear a baseball cap. The surprise on their faces when they get to my window and see I'm a woman is extremely telling. Given the crazy things that are happening all over the country right now it's unfortunate that I can say the lincoln police dept's behavior is not surprising at all because the crux of our police force is much like those in the news today: a bunch of unprofessional judgmental trigger happy bullies that lean a little too close to racist and sexist than is comfortable or safe. The police do not make me feel safe. I guess I can say 'at least they aren't killing us', but I'd have to follow it up with a 'yet'. Thanks to my experiences with them, I'm more afraid of what they will do than I am of the criminals. It'll be a cold day in hell before I call them for help again. And THAT is very telling, too.

I think I would rather die then ever contact LPD for help again! I was punched in the side of my head 3 times while driving by my 28 yr old son. When the officers came out I told them what happened and abt his mental issues and they did nothing. My son said I hit him first really I WAS DRIVING 35 mph and was struck 3 times on the side of my head leaving large welts and I hit him? Excuse me LPD I suggest you figure out how to serve and protect because you don't have a clue what thiose words mean. My son should have been placed in protective custody and taken to Crisis Center for evaluation. My son told the officers abt voices and ppl that aren't there and they found this exceptable. Oh my God I don't want LPD any where near me they are pathetic and useless. To get my son help he has to pose a danger to himself or others what the hell AM I? If anything happens to either my son or I as a result of their negligence I guarantee I will seek legal action against the officers as well as the department. I suggest LPD get some training so you all don't look so incompentent! I have a degree in CRIMINAL JUSTICE. I know they failed not just me but my son as well. Furthermore they sent the message to my son that its okay to beat on his mother. I have lost all respect for LPD and Law Enforcement in this town.

Absolutely terrible police department it’s a very common thing for people here to floor it through cross walks when people are ACTIVELY WALKING THROUGH THEM, at this point I’m just waiting for someone to die, what do the police do NOTHING if you actually cared about keeping people safe you should set a cop their and sent a message instead they sit and wait to pull people over on streets that used to be highways that have 45 mph speed limits now and the police take advantage of that

I called the non emergency number because I heard gun shots in my neighborhood, the woman on the phone was very nice and made me feel at ease, officers got here quickly. Thank you LPD

I have lived in Lincoln for 12 years near 25th and Vine. The officers for our neighborhood do an amazing job. Over the years they have responded to all kinds of issues, promptly and professionally. Often, when people complain about the police, they either don't understand what exactly the police can and can't do by law and/or they are too ill mannered to see they are being obstructive.
