This is our space for telling our own story about the wonderful accomplishments and many opportunities enjoyed by our students and their teachers.
Our goal in starting a district Facebook page is to provide a forum for telling our own story about the excellence and opportunity that abound in our Litchfield Public Schools. We want our community to see, through our eyes, both the everyday and extraordinary moments in our schools. We want our parents, staff, and students to see our posts and feel more positive, open, and interconnected.
But, we also want our students and staff to feel safe. For that reason, we’ve developed a set of protocols for our users. The following guidelines will help you understand what is allowed on our Facebook page -- what type of comments we hope to see and which comments will be removed. Because this is our page, and because we want a positive and safe place for kids and their families, we ask that you post personal criticisms and negativity on any of the other social forums available to you.
• A link to the Facebook page will appear on the district webpage and the first few words of every post will ‘tweet’ (appear on Twitter).
• We will use the Facebook page to showcase positive educational and civic values, celebrations of student work, field trips, experiential learning activities, music and art events, classroom events, assemblies or school-wide celebrations, athletics and after-school activities, performances, recognition of individual students, and so on.
• Be a cheerleader! We will remove comments which identify people in a post by their first and last names. It is OK to comment, “Way to go, Jack!” It is not OK to comment, “Way to go, Jack Jones!”
• Be open and positive! Our Facebook page is inviting and community-driven; it is not personal. Therefore, comments pushing personal opinions or agendas will be removed. We will also remove any comment which criticizes a teacher, student, administrator, coach, family, or program.
• Be supportive, light-hearted, and funny! We will remove comments which are sarcastic or condescending in tone.
• Honor our mission! Comments which are political, controversial, dictatorial, sermonizing, or off-topic will be taken down.
The mission of the Litchfield Public Schools is to provide all students with appropriate academic and personal learning experiences within a safe and supportive educational environment. In partnership with our parents and community, we challenge every learner to acquire the knowledge, skills, and personal attributes needed to become productive and self-directed citizens.
