We used this preschool for two years of preschool as well as Kindergarten for my oldest. My youngest attended one year of preschool here in the 3yo class. The preschool program was so fun and cute. We really loved it, hence the 3 stars. They did tons of activities and put on parties and plays for parents. Loved the two way mirrors. The kindergarten program really damaged my oldest though. I think if he were a typical student with zero behavior issues that could sit at a desk for long periods and follow directions without a lot of coaching, he would have done well, but he’s not. The discipline for him in the K class was primary isolation and negativity. He left the school saying things like “I hate myself” at only 5 years old. It was clear to me that both Tara and Melissa had lost patience with him by the end. They claimed he completed only about “30% of the work they gave him” and recommended he repeat kindergarten with them again. My instinct said to get him away from this school and do kindergarten again somewhere else. Now, we are in the public school system trying to undo a year of negative experience and he is finally thriving. In public school, he is being coached through his behavior issues with positive reinforcement and we are working towards a 504 plan for when his emotions get to be too much and he needs to break away for a minute or for when he is physically incapable of sitting still any longer. He no longer cries and has to be dragged into the building at drop off as he did at Little Learners. He is excited about school, loves his teacher, and does his work. He CHOOSES to do his homework now, where it was a hour long battle that I often lost when we were at Little Learners. I chose LLA because I knew he was going to be a little more difficult to get to sit down and focus on learning and to manipulate into cooperating with learning tasks based on my experiences with him at home. I thought the ratios and attention he would get there were the best thing for him. As it turned out, it was the worst thing for him and his current public school kindergarten teacher and I are working towards rebuilding his confidence and undoing a year of damaging negative discipline from Tara and Melissa. Hoping to warn mom’s of atypical kids of these issues that the public school system actually has the resources for your kid, where this school does not. Wish I hadn't set him back a year in his school journey and damaged his self confidence by keeping him at LLA for kindergarten. If hindsight were foresight, I would have put him straight into public school. I am happy to answer questions of moms who are looking into this program
We love Little Learners and had the best teachers, Miss Aubrey and Miss Marie. I felt like my child got so much out of class, and learned so much. He can now read three letter words, knows shapes, colors in Spanish, and many other skills preparatory for kindergarten. His teachers were caring and loving and patient. The staff is wonderful. Definitely recommend.
The director here, Launa, is a gem. A really excellent school.
