My passion for fishing began long ago as a boy with my father. My father taught me the joy and challenge of fishing. I discovered at a young age that fishing would always be an important part of my life. Over the coming years, my fishing experiences with sporting goods stores bought lures were not as productive. This left me with a desire to create a lure with all the qualities of a custom handmade lure provides. Spending years testing for size, weight, color and wood type has helped me focus on which of these condition appeal to predatory fish, specifically Striped bass, Blue fish, and Northern pike.
I've been an avid fisherman searching the CT River and shorelines of New England with bait and plugs for more than 35 years, as well as a woodworker for more than 25 years. I became interested in building my own plugs because I knew exactly what I wanted in a plug: the highest quality construction combined with fish catching ability and cast ability. Using my combined knowledge of fishing and woodworking, I created Lloyd’s Lures.
Lloyd’s Lures are handcrafted saltwater/freshwater wooden plugs, built one plug at a time. Each plug line is turned, painted, and assembled by hand. The production of our plugs is limited, due to the amount of labor involved. Each plug line is extensively tested to ensure that we are producing the best quality and fish producing plugs available to fishermen on the market.
Starting with the wood, we use various cedars, basswood, pine and mahogany are all used in our manufacturing process which is sealed to prevent water absorption. All plugs are thru wired with stainless steel wire and use the highest quality hardware including VMC hooks, Rosco Stainless Steel Split Rings, and Rosco 801 Nickel Barrel Swivels .
