Our “secret” gem! The Greenbelt Trail...a 32 mile trail stitched together from Heckscher Park East Islip to Sunken Meadow Kings Park. What a beautiful way to see Long Island at ground level. Make sure you say hello to Caretaker Allan at the GB HQ, mile 20 from the south! You won’t believe how beautiful our Island is! but it is!
On Saturdays at 1 o'clock and 2:30 there is a tour of the old house which is nicely done. There are many old pictures and artifacts, good for children. The house is 198 years old!
Went for an amazing run.. then walk.. then run when I caught my breath again . Very nice and peaceful. Make sure to spray yourself with some off spray before going though.
Beautiful hiking trail around Stump Pond.
Beautiful park. I was surprised to find such a secluded and dense woods in middle of all the busy towns around. I have been running year round in this park for the last 2 years. The trail is marked well. A couple of places to the north of the park on the trail becomes a swamp after a rainy day. There are some nice campgrounds and picnic spots. Dog park is a must visit on weekends.
Enjoy your walk from Hecksher Park on the South shore to sunken meadow
