I help people feel better emotionally by guiding them in identifying and changing unhealthy thoughts and behaviors which cause distress.
Like most people, I am often asked what I do for a living. When I say “I’m a psychotherapist”, the reaction ranges from “Boy, I could use your help!” to “Isn’t it hard to sit there and listen to people talk about their problems all day?” to “Do you REALLY think you help your clients?”
I love what I do, I feel privileged that people trust me to share their stories with me, and yes, I really do help my clients! I have spent the past 25 years helping people like you who are struggling emotionally for many different reasons. You don’t have to have a “diagnosis” to benefit from therapy. In fact, one of the reasons I do not participate on insurance panels is so I do not have to diagnose you (a requirement for reimbursement). As I do with each client I see, I will begin our work from a fresh, non-judgmental perspective, forging a trusting therapeutic relationship, helping you identify situations which cause distress, assisting you in learning alternative ways to think about and react to these situations, and ultimately empowering you to use these new strategies for self-healing when future emotional difficulties arise. These are incredibly useful techniques for all aspects of life, whether you are struggling with symptoms of depression or anxiety, having relationship/communication problems, or if you are trying to make a decision about the next steps in your life, to name a few. They are lifelong skills, and my goal is to have you become your own therapist as you continue on your path toward a healthier, happier life!
