About

LUMBINI BUDDHIST ART GALLERY

Committed in supporting local artist and Thanka culture in Nepal for more than a decade.

Description

The Lumbini Buddhist Art Gallery family whole-heartedly welcomes to all people interested in the art of Thangka painting. Lumbini is one of the leading Thangka producers and exporters in Nepal. Since our establishment in 2007, we have been supplying our products to a variety of clients as well as to Buddhist centers worldwide.

Our Berkeley gallery offers a collection of traditional and modern arts created by different levels of artists, including authentic paintings by Tibetan and Nepalese Masters. Our motto is to serve our clients conveniently, respectfully and reliably, running on a very low profit to offer the best value to our customers.

Thangka paintings are most-often recognized by those engaged in Buddhist practices and meditations, but Thangkas are not only religious material; we can see their strong artistic value. Artists spend hours every day sitting in the same position to paint the specific details of a Thangka, using only a tiny hair brush. There is an exact posture as defined in Pecha (A Tibetan Holy Book), and an artist can get physically weak during the necessary time period. Most Thangkas require several months to complete, some taking over a year with multiple artists working on the same piece.

Lumbini Buddhist Art Galley currently supports 30 artists in Nepal, helping to improve the condition of the artists so that this tradition can continue to be passed on to future generations.
