The Lutheran Resale Shop is a very special treasure here in St. Louis. 50 years ago, the Shop was started by the Lutheran Family and Children’s and Services Auxiliary and Lutheran Altenheim Auxiliary to raise funds for their respective charities. The first location was at Grand and W. Florissant.
Our present location at 6701 W. Florissant is handy for people who walk, ride the metro bus or use the Jennings Senior Citizen bus. Occasionally, we get a surprise visit from the residents at Hidden Lake.
Recently, a donation of 300 pounds of elementary school uniforms arrived. We partnered with St. Matthews, Grace Chapel and Salem, Blackjack, Elementary Lutheran Schools to share 25% of the total of all uniform sales with each school. For the fourth year we have sold gently used Lutheran High School North uniforms with the incentive that 50% of sales will be donated back to the school for tuition assistance. Each of these schools receives a check each year for several hundred dollars.
From the beginning, all our work has been done by hundreds of volunteers, many of which come in several times a week. Lutheran High School students can also work here and do their volunteer hours.
Fifty percent of our profits, after expenses, go to Lutheran Family and Children’s Services, 25 percent to Lutheran Senior Services Resident’s Fund of Breeze Park and 25 percent to Lutheran Senior Services Resident’s Fund of Hidden Lake.
Our newest “adventure” is advertising on Craigslist.com. We had to find a way to let people know we have very unique, vintage items. As a result, we have customers coming from as far away as Jefferson City, Mo. and Lebanon, Illinois.
WE ACCEPT CASH ONLY.
